Forced into melee

Why do the linemen get forced into melee when any group of enemies attacks them.

Example.

Your line = *
Enemy = +

++++++++++++++++

++++++
*******************

Now I understand the people on the left side of your line would have to be in melee. But why do the ones on the right never fire just because some of their units are in melee. It's frustrating and frankly a huge blow to realism.

You can have just one person in melee within your whole group and nobody will fire because of it. This needs to be fixed. Those who are NOT directly in melee should be able to fire.

me think the do fire when in guard mode!!!

Sometimes they will fire soemtimes not. But it's hard to get a unti to fire in any sort of order whn half of them are fighting.

It is kinda cool when a unit forced into melee (but without melee button selected) will occasionally fire off point blank shots off the cuff.
