    Default auxiliaries

i know that mercenaries are gone (which i think is terrible) and that european factions can get native american auxiliaries. but how does the auxiliary system work? also, are there any other auxiliaries that can be recruited (sikhs, afghans, cossacks, etc.)?

just right click on the church and it will tell you everything you need to know. not only do they spawn missionaries (sometimes) but the building itself also slowly converts the religion in the region to your nation's religion. you might discover that even your starting regions are not 100%. this ends up affecting public order. missionaries are basically the same thing as churches except, on 'wheels'.

    Terrain:
Does being in forest, woods, etc actaully have an effect in combat. What actually counts as cover, you see a marker when behind walls or in houses but there is nothing when you are behind logs(tutorial) houses and such stuff.

The manaul was really weak at explaining concepts.

it's not really an auxiliary system, it's more of an AOR (area of recruitment system). for example, for Britain, you can only recruit Black Watch and Coldstream Guards from Scotland. as you can see, it's not solely restricted to auxiliaries from other nations/background, although i'm pretty sure as you move around in the world you will see a variety like you stated.

Default questions on campaign map diplomacy.

Hi all, I was playing my Polish campaign, which is currently at 1735, and had some questions I'm hoping that could be illuminated.

    1. I rather foolishly declared war on the ottomans. It made sense at the time, they had a lot of territory, lightly defended, and i needed Constantinople for one of my victory provinces. However, now all the countries in Europe that i'm not paying off have -145 diplomacy rating because of my 'expansionist policies.' This makes sense to me, but what happened was that this penalty went from a manageable -60 to the rather difficult -150. Now even my allies (which have +60 from the alliance and +60 from the long-standing trade) are coming close to the dangerous +0 neutrality rating.

My question is, if I cease attacking people, expanding, etc..., will this diplomacy penalty ever drop? or should I just donate a ton of money in the form of state gifts to the largest factions and continue attacking?

    2. I know there are diminshing returns on gentlemen from the schools. The question is, what is the 'optimal' number? i've been trying for 3 on each one and i'm not sure if this is most efficent.

    3. How effective are bomb ketchs? any advice on using (or not using) them?

it depends on what you mean by 'have an effect'. for one you can't move artillery in forested areas. units' morale drop in very hot places (some units have an ability that resists this). some units can also hide depending on the terrain, and i'm sure ambushes do have an effect on combat.

as for cover, it doesn't need a 'marker' to count as one. the 'marker' is only there to let you know that your unit can interact with it. bullets don't magically land on your enemies, if there is something in the middle of the way they will stop there. so that log in the tutorial does block some shots.

What exactly are the effects of having a nation as a protectorate? I just forced Poland to be a protectorate as Prussia.

you get 50% of thier income, get military access
but if someone declares war on them you have to protect them,
which can draw you into wars you don't want

    Default 2 Questions abt ETW

Hey guys, I am playing Prussia and I am following historical route by attacking Austria and I am doing pretty well so far. Anyways, I am still new to ETW but I have two questions:

    1. I remember that we can play ETW from steam offline mode but every time I am still logging on steam, how do I do offline mode (cause I hate those ads from steam).

    2. Where can I get resupply ammo on battlefield? I mean if you gonna have ammo limite you should also able to resupply ammo, yes?

BTW. No matter what you do research Rank Firing tech fast, this is a MUST if you want to fight European armies.

Has anyone successfully forced a surrender when attacking? I have fought some very one sided battles (full stack -vs- 2 units) and can never seem to get it to work.

open up the diplomatic negotiations window (wreathe), click on your own nation, then hover the mouse pointer over the nation of which you'd like to see the diplomacy rating of.

Can someone speak to this port issue? I have a 3ship Spanish fleet blockaded by a larger Moroccan fleet. If I try to leave I am intercepted and forced to fight a battle I can not win. In building in the blockaded port more ships, they are built but never merge with my fleet and just sit on the queue. How can I merge them? In MTW they just automatically merged so you build a bigger fleet and fight your way out. Is it because a blockaded port functions like a besieged city in MTW and you can not repair or make more units? Confused.
