First off, awesome game.....in my opinion cant be compared.
However while i relish the thought of driving the English off American soil and vice versa, and then playing (eventually) the American Indian tribes i have to wonder about CA's finalisation process for choosing the nations involved and have to ask why America??
compared with other nations contribution to the period it seems like a waste for America to be included.....ok before im crucified yes the discovery of the new world and all that, great...but given a whole faction status over some other key and critical powers especially Portugal seems to be wrong.
i mean the Portuguese for one were critical in this period having a full on spat with the dutch(united provinces) for over half a century, whereas the war for independence was a paltry 8 years, ranging all over the colonies and including Spain and England siding with the relative powers, this lead to conflict in Brazil, the east, Africa and also had many key naval encounters which ultimately saw the demise of the Portuguese armada , but more importantly established for the dutch their empire and need i even mention the Portuguese war of restoration which saw the dual monarchy of Spain/Portugal ended and power seized from the Hapsburgs' as well as Portugal involvement in the thirty years war. Not to mention the political and religious implications this had generally in europe and the new world
all of this swapped for the americans seizing independance and throwing out the british, which in my opinion while great as a tutorial and definately worth it for an expansion, doesnt really ring any excitement bells...unless you are american....
myself being of south african and of british decent i enjoy total war because of its scope and accuracy and while yes i understand sega and Ca's need for expanding its scope and customer base from a business point of view i think it is a poor tradeoff for historical accuracy not too mention that we as players are missing a key european power.
ok i do rather relish the thought of invading europe with a huge american armada, but although satisfying the fantastical part of my nature i still think that the tradeoff is poor...again unless you want to see the whole world dominated by the americans...
i live in the hope of one of the great modders (ie darth etc) will hopefully look into this and rectify this flaw that no doubt crept through from the corporate boardroom and onto our pc's....andmaybe just one or two battles of the anglo zulu war.....
Note of Appreciation:
Again CA thank you for this its been upwards of 20 plus years since my cousin and i bought our first 1/72 scale battlesets of napoleonic and colonial era plastic troops....fought for days about the rules and eventually settled on marbles and pee shooters.....this is the type of thing we used to fantasise, talk about and imagine on those long weekend days....
