    Hey all,

    Anyone else notice that as soon as you turn on AA that the framerate drops drastically? I can get 50-60 FPS in heavy battles on high settings. as soon as i turn it up to 2x i get 15 - 25 whats up with that? thats a bit of a change, on other games it might drop the fps by 10-20 maybe..

    Core 2 Duo 8400 3Ghz
    Nvidia Geforce 9800GTX+ 512mb
    4 GB 1066mhz Corsair Ram.
    Windows Vista Home 64bit

    Have the latest drivers installed also, i have heard about rolling back to 7.15 might solve a few things but alot of people are reporting its not..
    Your Opinions

    What other settings are you playing on?

    There is a problem with the latest drivers and Empire so the first thing i would do is to rollback and see.

    For now if yod dont want to change the AA and drivers try the game with some of the settings like grass lower.

    I run with a 9800gt AAx2 AFx4 on WinXP 32bit and most other settings high.
    When i dropped the grass to low everything shot up (grass never bothered me much in TW games anyway).

    Did u have HDR on because AA + HDR causes alot of problems with some games.
    I tend to opt for the HDR over the AA in most instances but i am giving it a go just for now.

    As u can see your rig is superior to mine so its interesting to see what answers you give.

    p.s

    Rig = intel C2d 4600 @2.4ghz, 9800 gt , 2gb ram and WindowsXP 32bit

    will post my results when i can

    should be interesting.

    I can run 2xAA with only a slight framerate drop. It was actually a bigger difference in Europa Barbarorum when I has 6000 12 foot spears on the screen at once!

    I'm running all ultra settings with 2xAF, HDR etc etc on an ATi 4870 512.

    Sometimes a radeon can handle AA and HDR better than an Nvidia card.

    This sounds just like one of those instances

    That's comparing apples and oranges - the radeon costs £180 and the nvidia costs £115.

    I think the grass is the problem.

    AA is usually near always reducing framerates drastically. At least this has been the case on all of my PC's up to date - and I have been using Nvidia and ATI graphic cards.

    The reduction you describe seems to be a valid rate. So I usually turn of AA first. I that does not solve the problem, I turn of shadows - that is usually the next biggest "eater" of resources..

    Sorry you misunderstood me, i meant that there has been driver issues with the way that the Nvidia card handles AA + HDR .

    There have been alot of games where the Catalyst driver performs better in this situation, and nothing to due with how fast the card is.

    Price =/= performance.

    Can someone post me a link to which nvidia drivers are recommended right now? I'm at a loss as to what is meant by 7.15 as the naming convention I'm used to is 182.05 etc.

    Thanks in advance.
