Black & White flickering screen then CTD!!!!

Just bought full retail copy of the game and after 3 hours of installing the damn thing! this happens when i try to play???

After the loading screen i get vertical lines horizontally up and down the screen!! then the game goes into a white screen then just stays there!!!

Any one else having this problem

Spec of PC just in case:

AMD Athlon XP 3200 +
Nividia GeForce 7600 GS with shader 3
2 gb RAM
Direct X 9.0c
256 MB Memory
Windows XP Service Pack 3

The above worked fine and got to play the game once, now it has gone back to the flickering screen again and have tried the above method now 10 times??

Wow. That's unacceptable. It almost seems like it's not saving the change(s). Does anything else happen after the flickering? Do you need to restart the machine or can you alt+tab or ctrl+alt+del out?

I can ctrl+alt+del out no problem but having only played the game once and have tried to restart the machine as well but made no difference, this is now very frustrating?? is there anyway of bypassing Steam and launching the game from disk just like the good old days with RTW and MTW2??? anyone help on this issue

I have exactly the same issue with the demo, which is stopping me from buying the full game if I can't get this working.

I tried the logging out of steam then back in but that didn't work for me.

Black/white flashing lines, Steam Shift-TAB box top right do that and then back to the game window and it's white. Task Manager says "not responding".

All drivers upto date.

Right on!! i have restarted machine and i cannot even get steam to work now!!!
