I'd be interested to help with modelling, but we need to know how to open those damn rigid_mesh files -_-
I'd be interested to help with modelling, but we need to know how to open those damn rigid_mesh files -_-
all files is in testdata
snow, map, weather and the last one dont know
(edit sorry big pics)
this files campaign.xml in testdata look like a "desc_strat"
all city name,x y pos and city of name own of country. etc
Interesting... Haven't looked into testdata, because... well, because of it's name.
Didn't seem to me like it contained stuff that's actually used in the game... We'll see.
It would be nice if we could find out how to use those rigid_mesh files... If CA release their modding tools, I guess there'll be some import filters for 3dmax among them, like they were used for the unit meshes in previous games.
Sigh... Making the camiapgn map a conglomerate of models... Can anyone out there tell me if we might be able to make this a quick one by somehow applying geological data in a 3d modeling program? That would be nice...

arent the geological data allready in the game, cf WarriorOne images ? If yes maybe it would be easier than it looks. (for example, if those images are used to create the europe map in europe_theatre (just a theory), tell the game to use these images to create a map in Africa_theatre, then just create the frame and the game creates the map like automaticaly ...)
Sorry but for a level one noob like me things always look easy
ho and could someone fast tell me xhat is a mesh file please ? i like to understand
im sure(99%) thats world_.stpd and world_.stpi
like this pics of britain but on world..coz its on 169 mb..
dont know how edit this typer files .stpd
plus not sure what is this campaign.xsd..think that make some turn and more.
cant find this right campaign.xml for grand campaign
will figue out of that si...ck later

A mesh is a wireframe. In the case of mesh files it's the wireframes of 3d models.

Could maybe take real maps into photoshop and convert them into a map suitable for a displacement map. Apply it to the mesh in Max or Maya and then refine the mesh to that? Dunno. Just tossing possible work saving ideas.
Being a mesh model does this mean that the battle maps can be derivate from the campaign maps with some detail?

I support this project and believe this greatly deserves a sticky. More people would get involved at least.
Seconding the sticky.
Yes, Stinky
Aren't the model files representing the villages and map features available in the campaign map? Just guessing, but as far as I see it it might be the clue: models included in an image.
Great job.
By the way: for the maps you can always count on me!
So finally I bought Total War: Rome 2. Regarding I payed 7.5$ for it, it's not a bad game at all!
On the other hand, Errabundi, it makes sense that the campaign map itself is modeled - think of the abolition of tiles, which make the most prominent difference from the previous games' maps.
Also, it wouldn't make much sense to name the meshes of the town models "coastline".

Great finds everyone!! Hope you will make something damn good out of this!

Autodesk also owns Maya, and architectural/ engineer specific application like civil 3d..
..that can read "TIN" files (Triangular Irregular Network) - thats vector data for GIS aplications -
On another note "stp" files (close enouf to stpd or stpi) are used by Turbocad which can aslo import terrain from TIN files.
Its a wild wild guess but anyone with a TIN or STP ,GIS or 3D program capable aplication can atempt to open the file.
