D2D is just another download/retail service. Pretty much the same as downloading from steam or the developer, only without having to be logged into steam all the time.

I know it is possible to play mods with a steam version. I read a post on how to do it somewhere on twc. With a bit of searching I am sure you will find it.

I managed to get steam version of medieval (kingdoms) + Stainless Steel working following instructions on the SS forums, so i'm sure this can be made to work.

As far as I known mods work on the steam version of this game it only works diffirent from just a cd bought one. But their is a tutorial about it and I'm sure that after the release there will be a thread about this on how to instal this mod.

The game folders for steam are the same as when you install from a disk do it can run mods.
The Ask questions here thread was re-opend for a reason you know...

Hey mate, I bought Company of Heroes and Opposing Fronts off Steam, and they both work with mods. As far as I know, the game files are exactly the same, and the there are only two differences between the Steam and regular versions:

    1) the installation directory.

    2) the need to be logged onto Steam.

You'll have to try, but it should work fine. I believe this thread has served it's purpose...
