Aesthetic appeal aside, can you seriously imagine a human being swinging that axe with just one hand? Even with amazing strength where the weight of the axe wouldn't be a problem the length would still make it to awkward to make an effective swing.

The link you posted is valid, such weapons did exist, but they were used with 2 hands, that's all.

the scale of the image he posted isn't verified. But likely its much smaller than you think. Likely no more than 1.5ft. The axe in the preview is too large to be one handed. Had I seen it prior to the preview I likely would have said something.

I think the axes are fine, the axe-heads aint that big and probably not too heavy. remember those rohans are not weaklings, they are warriors! also the longer it is the harder it can hit, which most likely will even up the number of swings they have to make

I love the textures, no problem with the units that are there, but where are the Helmigas? And why is there two units, one called "Rohirrim" and one called "Riders"?

I think they will be redoing the names of the units, so dont worry about it

Excellent, very exciting and true to form. Shame there wasn't more Anglo-Saxon names for the units though, "Rohan Peasants" isn't manly enough for me!

A longer handle, means a bigger backdraft when you hit something.

try hitting something with a big pole and a small pole, see what you can hold best.

It's very likely that these axes if too big can be too hard to hold if you hit a solid target too hard, it'll just shoot out of your hand.

and lets not forget the swinging motion needed for something that big.

Warriors are still beholden to physics and physiology. That axe is fine if you use it Norse-axemen-style from the Teutonic campaign, but as is it's just impractical and ineffective, especially in formation.

The Units look amazing, but i think there is to much infantry and not enough cavalry for a rohan based faction.

Excellent stuff...Rohan's unit roster looks really tough to beat...

Light and Heavy infantry, foot and horse archers. and of course cavalry...

One other observation that the foot and horse archers should have shields on thier backs so when they switch to meele after running out of arrows.
"Spaniards can be impressed by the courtesy of the conqueror,
French by his riches, Greeks by his respect for the arts, Jews by
his moral integrity, Africans by his calm and authoritative bearing,
but Germans are impressed by none of these things. They must be
struck into the dust, struck down again as they rise. Struck again
while they lie groaning, while their wounds still pain them; they will
respect the hand that dealt them."

Ok Question regarding the issue with the Inf-Cav balance, someone gave his view on Rohan's gameplay, which would be having armies of cavalary roaming the lands, attacking every hostile army thats in range, and then ofc having some infantry here and there for protecting settlements and the occasional battles, I like this idea very much and its really how I see Rohan in TATW, but seeing the big amount of infantry units, the AI is probably not going to do this and will build big armies of infantry, which will kinda ruin the whole feeling

excelent unit! congratulation for a superb job draugt.
just two litle tiny things i think yiou should change.
    1. the bears, they look great, but it is the dame bear in every soldier of all units, so you may want to add some variations to that.
    2. i think that there should be a unit called "medusen guard" (cannot remember if that was the name exacly but you know what i mean) maybe they could be those elite infantry with bows and axes, or the elite shock cavarly at the end of the preview, is your call.
    again, great job

p.s: oh, and thanks for that pictur of the rohirrim figthing the mumakil
