Begining with Saxons

I have been trying to play with the Saxons, but I always collapse, because of all the wars that come apon me. I am wondering, should I stay peaceful for awhile with out attacking rebels also? Also while staying peaceful should I gather all the new spawned armies, then horde through the land? I find it impossible to get out of dept, so I pretty much put economy to the side and try to trade, but It still doesn't change anything. So how should I start out with the Saxons.
