Can I be cheeky and suggest a new name might be a good idea, 'The Greek Wars' lacks a bit of ommph.

Maybe you could hold a naming competition. It's good publicity and god knows there are enough Greek fans around here to make it worth advertising.
Yeah, the name has a lot of sentimental value to the original writers. I know I wouldnt be that happy to change it, but I suppose I could be persuaded.

Well, this mod was never intended to have the vast audience we eventually began marketing to it - we wanted to create a mod for those who read and write the story, but in the end broadened it more and released it at TWC as well. For example, in the full release, we will probably have optional story scripted events and suchlike.

So this will be a fantasy mod? Thats to bad, it really has potential as a Historical mod(I and alot of others(just look at EB) like those and they make the whole experience better .

Who said fantasy? Its based off a story, which isnt historically accurate. But it is mostly, we've attempted to have mostly period units etc, there will be no fantasy, it just isnt strictly accurate like EB.

It's not fantasy. It's less fantasy than the typical mod (or vanilla RTW) which throws in an anachronistic unit just because it's cool and people would otherwise complain about small unit rosters. Its only fictional characteristics are the names of the "family members" and some starting relations between factions (which are more fine tuned to the circumstances of the story than to their historical relations - note that I wrote "more", not "completely"). Oh, and the loading screen quotes.

Thanks for the offer Halie Satanus! I've played Sicilia already, and will check its complete roster to see if I can make use of any of your fine units, when I have enough time to get down to serious modding again.

A bit OT - how large were those factions' armies at that point in history?
I'm especially interested in the numbers the smaller factions (Megara, Sicyon, etc.) could field.
A big THANKS to all Total War modders

Visitor13 came to TWC for the wafers

Well having your own story set up isn't really realistic either right?

It doesn't have to be realistic to be fun.

Unrealistic (in this case, unhistorical) and fantasy are two different beasts.

Rome Vanilla is unrealistic and unhistorical at times, but no-one is going to claim it has fantasy elements (ignoring some of the weirder units). Its the same for our mod. We have ignored history in some places (power of states at this period, important people at the time etc etc) but the background is roughly accurate (unit types, terrain, city locations, no screaming fishwives etc)

Well here I disagree, just look at EB, its fully accurate and yet is one of the most fun mods to play.

So? Just because EB is historically accurate and fun, doesnt mean that something that isnt historically accurate cant be fun.

Anyway, dont you know how much research they put into that mod? Who can be arsed with that much work! (minus sel)

I downloaded TGW about a week ago and and gave it a go with Athens. Very fun! I was a little surprised that the Athenians have a temple of Aphrodite though? Would not Athena have been a better choice?

That isn't what I'm saying either, I'm just saying that the more accurate it is the more fun it gets to play it. EB quite prooves that seeing that its all about being Historical.

Well all that work do show some awesome results.

I was gonna write that in for the 0.9 release but ran out of time. I'll get around to that later though seeing that was one thing I was gonna do

I was wondering how long it would take for someone to pick up on that

    One of the TGW team...
I just do whatever needs doing! Sel does most of the work
