Ok, Ive been to TomsHardware guides, looked up Geforce 6600 article where its compared to 6800 and 6800 has slightly higher fps in games. I guess Im curious why 6600GT with faster clock speeds is actually slower than the 6800? I notice 6800 has faster bandwidth, but what is that a result of? What am I missing because I thought clock speeds told the story.

Check out a GT instead of a regular 6800.

the 6800 is better, mainly because it has 12 pipeline and a 256 bit memory interface, while the 6600gt only has 8 pipelines, and a 128 bit memory interface

The reason I chose vanilla 6800 was because they (TomH) used it in same benchmark test as the 6600GT. From the info provided by sales co., its deceiving about which is better. Thanks for the heads up about what was not listed.

Okay, a quick question about 6600GT. They advertise its the only GPU in its class to support some shader 3.0. Is it worth it or better to fork over the extra $20 to get 6800?

All the current 6xxx Nvidia cards support CineFX 3.0 BUT, only a select few games actually supports it just yet. "Pacific Fighters"(see sig) is the only game that I have that currently supports it.

The 6800 will generally outperform the 6600gt because of more pipelines, and pentuprage is right about all the recent Nvidia cards (6x00) supporting ps 3.0

If you're willing to spend a decent amount of money on a mid/high range card, you might want to consider the 6800GT, which is a solid performer in every aspect.
Though, because of your target price range, I would have to at least give mention to the X800XL, which is in the sub 300$ range. It does not support PS3.0, but offers near 6800GT performance.
