Rather, I can't wait for this mod. The soldiers in each unit vary in appearance enough to make the units appear interesting, but not so much as make them seem like a rag-tag mob of bandits. The texturers have done a great job.

Those screen shots look really good guys! I especially like the unit cards.

Its been pretty quiet in the public forums the past few days, so here's one of our new units.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Vķgamenn

    Armament: Seaxes
    Clothing: Linen
    Unit size: Huge
    Moral: Poor

Vķgamenn are the hardscrabble and wild hangers on of a host, sometimes locals fighting as irregulars, sometimes paid thugs to putting their blades to good use. They are often a desperate sort of people willing to rush into a breach and cut down the foemen with savage enthusiasm, often because they stand in the way of the Vķgamenn's next, and all to rare, meal.
Armed with a langseax and shield, as well a some armor, Vķgamenn are savvy assault troops, able to fight irregularly both as a unit, as well as in method, biting and punching, and throwing clods of earth to blind combatants. This gives them an advantage on broken ground, in city streets, and marshy and wooded wilderness, but will be slain by more organized warriors in open terrain, in a fair fight.
Vķgamenn are willing to do some of the less valorous work, such as slitting the throats of fallen fighters, and can be relied upon to fight.

"Five hundred doors and forty there are,
    I ween, in Valhall’s walls;
Eight hundred fighters through one door fare
When to war with the wolf they go." - the Grimnismol

    cut from Hurstwick.

The Norwegian Gulažing and Frostažing laws specify the construction of a shield. The shield should be made of wood with three iron bands and a handle fastened to the back side by iron nails. A later revision of the law says that the shield should be made of a double layer of boards (tvibyršr), and the front should be painted red and white.
Although the Gulažing laws required three iron reinforcing bars on the back of the shield, archaeological evidence is very slight. If they were used at all, these reinforcements would have added strength to the shield and served to hold the plywood or planking together.
All the surviving examples are made from solid butted planks, although literary evidence, such as the 10th century Frankish poem Waltharius, and the Gulažing laws, suggests that shields were made of laminated wood. No archaeological evidence supports this style of construction during the Viking era in Norse lands.
A few shields have survived from the Viking age, notably the shields from the Gokstad ship, which date from the 10th century. The ship was equipped with 32 shields, several of which survive intact. They were made from a single layer of planks butted together, with no iron bands, and the fronts were painted black and yellow.
Typical Viking shields were 80-90cm (32-36 inches) in diameter. Some were larger, such as the Gokstad shields, which were 94cm (37in) across. Based on surviving remnants, some of the smaller shields appear to have been as small as 70cm (28in) in diameter.
The Gokstad shields were approximately 7mm (1/4in) thick near the center and were chamfered so they were thinner at the edges. Most surviving shields are in the range between 6mm (1/4in) and 12mm (1/2in) thick, although shields thicker than 30mm (1-1/8in) have been found.

i still don't think that they had pure yellow shields with no signs or anything , no other color on it. They weren't fags. Put some brown, they had more brown that yellow im sure!

    No they were not fags
    They loved colourful things

    From Viking Answer Lady
Another interesting source for Viking Age paint on wood comes from shields. The Gokstad ship, for example, had 64 shields, with some painted entirely in yellow, with the others painted in black
