In that case, you'll just have to bring in more infantry of your own. Cavalry support would do nicely, too. If all else fails, just don't use the shield wall ability. I only find it necessary when fighting against cavalry.

order them to move not attack if the problem persists.
the shield wall should be used with guard mode on. it is very important you have guard mode on. it will make your hoplites much stronger than without it. try it out on 1v1. without SW, with SW and SW+GM and see which is most powerful
