Its confirmed. The Half Life 2 expansion pack will have Gordon and Alyx fleeing City 17 after the city's gates are unlocked and chaos gets in. This one screenshot at a secret site showed Gordon and Alyx fighting combine soldiers trying to hold back an antlion guard who got into the City 17 streets. :w00t

I still think you'd need to look way more badass in order to destroy whole legions of Combine soldiers. Freeman looks like he's crapping his pants everywhere he goes. He also looks like that mute assassin who holds the pool tournament at his house in Boondock Saints and then gets beaten to death with a pool ball.

Bit late on April Fools, especially since they CAN'T do an expansion to the story. Time is frozen and it will remain like that till HL3. Oh and look at this quote,

Actually, it isnt an April Fools joke.

This was announced AFTER April 1st and has already been confirmed by Valve themselves on many, many different websites.

Actually, they said it will be out sometime in 2005.

I mean really, expansion packs dont take THAT long to be made. Its basically just the original game but with a few added stuff and maybe some new effects and more levels.

it's 100% not an aprils fool joke.....it was covered in the most recent edition of PCGamerUK, and Valve have said there will be an annoucement on the expansion sometime this week, i think they said that would be on Thursday, but i can't quite remember.

you can buy the mag and see the screenshots and interview if you want.

also Valve said in it's weekly update news (which comes up when you load steam), that they will be making an annoucement on the subject sometime this week.

it also is unlikely to be an april fools, as they already did one of those more than a week before hand.

it's all over the HL2 boards, it's happening. no question.

Perhaps he is "needed" to safely escort Alyx out of City 17 because perhaps she is "needed" to do something important in Half Life 3? :whistle

And you cant play as Alyx cause Valve already said that playing as Alyx in the expansion pack was a rumor.

That's highly unlikely, I and everyone else I know was given the impression he'd be frozen for more than 30 seconds. Why would Valve change the story so drastically like that?

Valve have already confirmed you will play as Gordon......and that Alyx will also be playing a vital role. Whether Alyx will be a playable character is still not known though, although rumours even before the article in PCGamerUK, said that you would be able to play as Alyx.

I'd suspect you would play as barney, or if Valve is getting ballsy, they bring back Adrian Sheperd.
