I run an Asteroid mining website. Visit it before James Cameron takes it from me.
Falco runs into the senate, he almost overslept his last chance to oppose the peace treaty.
"We must have a guarantee that the Greeks will hold their side of the bargain while we rebuild our Republic. Messana acts like a knife on our throat in this matter, they have the upper hand should anything happen. So long as there is no way to restrain Greek military actions from Messana I cannot support this measure!"
A period of time should be presented to the Greeks. Senator Falco has a point. If they agree to a ceasefire and trade now, who knows when they will suddenly attack again? I propose to demand that they maintain the terms of the treaty for 5 years at the very least, in order that we may secure our Republic and the lands of Italia.
OoC: Can we do that ingame?
People will believe a lie because they want it to be true; or they're afraid it's true.
Given proper motivation, almost anyone will believe almost anything. Because people are stupid, they will believe a lie because they want to believe its true, or because they're afraid it might be true. Peoples' heads are full of knowledge, facts and beliefs, and most of it is false, yet they think it all true. People are stupid; they can only rarely tell the difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident they can, and so are all the easier to fool.
OOC: I think not, but for RP's sake...
ooc: Just to silence those ever-protesting senators, nay?
Senators, if we will continue to doubt and to wait, those Greeks won' trust us for a bit and will think we make peace for some obscure reasons!
I do not see why we didn't welcome them right away!
Consuls, or Praetors, if we won't accept it here and now, then put it to a vote right away!
We should not loose precious time in this hasty matter.
I join Clarus, and several other Senators in their call:
Peace and Trade!
After Manlius sat down, he leaned over to Senator Volero and whispered
Quintus, my friend, I am sorry but I do not support what you say in this matter. But it is of no great deal, we can have our differences, but we stay friends always!
Varius stood up from his seat.
Greeks are no barbarians as the Gauls are! If we wait too long, it is possible that they withdraw their offer, and then we are in more trouble than when we accept it right away!
Let us not bicker about this matter, but immediately accept!
I would not try to ask the greeks for gold or other valuables, we will have that money by ways of trade with them.
He placed himself back on his chair, and whispered to Manlius:
Thank you for the compliment, my friend.
I do not demand money, gold, or presents from the Greeks in return for peace. All I say is that we must make this treaty precise. How do we know what is going through the minds of the leaders of the Koinon Hellenon. Sure, they are not barbarians, and therefore do have a sense of honour. But then again, being civilised and learned means that you also have the ability to plot and scheme. I think we should make sure this isn't some sort of trap made by the Greeks, but setting a time frame on the amount of years the treaty must be upholded.
Very well. How about this.
The Koinon Hellenon agrees to a cessation of all hostilities at land and sea, and free passage of travellers and traders across borders and trade lanes. This will be kept for five years before renewal.

Well, if this satisfies the doubters, then it can go without the need for a vote.
Senator Lucius Artorius Cato (34)
I fully agree on this motion!
Are there still any people who doubt?
If so, then Consul, just put it to a vote and we will see the outcome!
I think we won't be that surprised.
Senators Falco and Ahenobarbus had reservations, if this satisfies them we can go ahead at once.
Senator Lucius Artorius Cato (34)
I am satisfied with this agreement. Feel free to put it to vote, or to present it to the Greek diplomats.
I agree with this proposal, dear colleagues.
I agree aswell, and to the rest of the senate. Your silence is counted as approval.

Protesting does n' t seem to help as to many of you only look as far as your arm stretches. Asking our enemies to pay tribute could lower the taxes for the citizens of Rome.
But i will agree with your proposal of peace and trade rights.
