Got a problem... It happened a little while ago and I figured it was because I messed up the BI 1.6 patch installation, so I did a complete re-install of RTW, BI, and the patch and then VI2. Still getting the same error, which is thus:

    C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\RomeTW-BI.exe is not a valid Win32 application.

I'm 99.9% sure that's where I put it, but I'll re-install it again, just to make it 100%.

That's what I did. Both times. And the same error has popped up.

Three ideas as to what you can do:

    1. try downloading the mod from a different browser
    2. if you have Vista make sure you have it set up correctly (I assume you have tried others mods and so this should not be the issue?)
    3. Try the RAR version / I think the installer software expect a 32-bit system and it may have problems with 64-bit ones (but try it as a last resort anyway even if you do not have a 64-bit system)

IF you get it working please let us know what you had wrong so that we can inform others who may have a similar problem. Thank you.

I used the .exe version, I don't have Vista, and I severely despise WinRAR, as I find it horrible to work with, but I might try it later and when/if I find out what the error is, I'll make sure I let you know.

EDIT: I've just downloaded the trial version of WinRAR and the first thing I notice is that it is going to take a LOT longer to download VI2 with .RAR than .EXE... More updates about it soon.

WinRAR did not work either, so I have no idea what is going on with this.

Are you sure you have enough memory on your system?

Are you sure the download is not corrupting? Have you tried another browser or download manager?

The exe should be 163,277 and the RAR 205,107 file size I believe.

This thread on this forum talks a lot about this error (might be some clues there for you):

The only browser or download manager I've tried is the one provided in the Mod Information and Download thread. If you could point me in the direction of another one, then I would supremely grateful.

Browsers = Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera.... you can choose your own

I don't use download managers myself but a Google search should find you one.

Can I ask again of you have installed other RTW mods? Download corruption caused by your download process or some missing files/unusual PC setup are the only things I can think of as causing this error...

Ah, that kind of browser, haha. I've got Internet Explorer v. 8, and I did a clean install of RTW and then BI just to try this mod out. I'm probably going to completely uninstall both of them and all files associated with them, then start from scratch.

I've had problems with IE 8 and so have others (mostly not loading web pages) so I uninstalled it.

I'm beginning to think it might be the BI patch I download... I mean, I download it from the SEGA West site, so maybe I should try it from the other one provided?

Try installing just the BI 1.6 patch and then running BI. If it works ok, it's not the patch. And then get yourself Mozilla Firefox, much better than IE.

Haha, I'm currently downloading the patch from Filefront. I un-installed and then installed BI again, and pulled it up to check everything out. Only problem I had was that it offered me the option of continuing a campaign and when I clicked it, it started to do something and then went back to the menu. It was weird, but whatever. As soon as the patch is downloaded, I'll check it out again and see what's going on.

As for Firefox and all that stuff, my dad is big on IE, I don't know why, but he'd probably un-install Firefox and replace it with IE, if he saw me using it.

I redid everything and I got the same error message, so I just looked up exactly what the heck a Win32 Application was and found the exact error message I'm getting, and found out it can be caused by one of four things, which are listed below.

    1. File is corrupt, bad, or missing.
    2. File is not designed for your version of Windows.
    3. File is a virus, worm, or other malware file.
    4. Hardware incompatibility.
Which one it is, I have no idea.

The mod files are not infected with anything and they work for Windows XP and Vista; for sure. A hardware incompatibility would cause your RTW to not play either, so if you can play RTW, it's not that either.

Just to cover all cases: The installer version of the mod contains a dummy RTW-BI.exe file, which is however not installed if you already have it in yourr system (which you should, as the mod requires BI 1.6). If you install at the wrong directory, the installer will not find the real RTW-Bi.exe and will install the dummy one, which of course it's not a real .exe file. So, are you perfectly sure you are pointing your installer to the right directory?

I think it said all that in the link I provided

    Plus not having enough memory.
