Well you will notice that as you play it.
There are many features that make XGMD look and feel like a different RTW game. New factions (Pergamum, Achaean League). Dacia is also in the game. Helenic factions, Diadochi factions, and Romans all extensively or completely reskinned (and this is on-going work). The recruitment system and the unit stats system largely differ from that in XGM. Economy is simpler, but also slower than economy in XGM. Be prepared to be very tight on money early in the game. Darker tones dominate the game (textures by RedFox), music is different, new loading screens etc etc. The gameplay is somewhat more difficult. If you are experienced player, try it on H/H, and it still will be quite a challenge.
I think TM is right, just start a campaign and judge for yourself.
Well, M.E included the most of it, but did forgot a thing: We will have wooden walls wich you can stand on, this will be for barbarian factions instead of the stonewall. And this is little less vanilla than XGM to.
wooden walls which you can stand on like in M2TW? that's great, at last those awful wooden walls will be replaced, since there is no difference between the pallisade and the wooden walls. but I think it would be better to make them available for every faction, with the civilized factions that can upgrade it to stone walls...
IIRC they are meant for every faction. Just instead of the Wooden Walls.
So Pallisade ==> New Wooden Walls ==> Stone Walls.

I was wondering, does XGMD have the defensive city scripts (the like for Antioch, Carthage, Rome, Syracuse, Alexandria, etc. etc) that XGM has? I don't think I have ever besieged one of those citiies on XGMD yet, so was just wondering.
Yes. Atleast IIRC, the cities do get some extra units in the city when besieged.
Only Rome and Syracuse have defense scripts at the moment. Those armies are nothing major though. Romans get a lot of Socii, Rorarii and Hastati with skirmishers. I am yet to work on a properly working script though with trigger times.

Better skins... it is what you prefer. XGM has very nice skins too. Both XGM and XGMD have Bactria as a playeble faction.

The main difference I've noticed is less holdovers from vanilla RTW...(i.e., Phalangites and such)
