is there any mod that can change recruitment time to zero? I know its not historically accurate.
I don't believe there ever has been for EB. At least not for v1.0.
In your RTW installation there is a folder called EB. Inside this one called Data. Inside that one a file named export_descr_unit.txt
First make a copy of it (just in case). Now you have a file named Copy of export_descr_unit.txt
Open the original export_descr_unit.txt
You will find entries for every unit:
The number in red is the number of turns it takes to recruit a unit. Change that to 0 (zero) for each unit you want instantly recruitable (or all of those).;397
type arabian infantry saba citizen spearmen

stat_fire_delay 0
stat_food 60, 300
stat_cost 1, 1261, 350, 60, 90, 1261

Now, I tried that and I would not advise it. Not only you unbalance the Factions but you end up facing lots of low tier units...
But it's up to you
its real simple tho, just use the replace function in notepad
like for search
stat_cost 1
and replace
stat_cost 0
and continue changing the search value...worked for me...
some entries has more/less spaces between the stat_cost and the value "1" etc
this changes all factions tho, but it evens it out imo, just a personal preference...
edit#
it doesnt add all the spaces when i post here, so just copy from the .txt instead...

Hmm. In fact I believe the 1-turn recruitment is not accurate and it's used only for (supposedly) better game play.
A typical legionary cohort take only a few months to train, and one could easily recruit 10 or 20 cohorts at the same time provided there is enough money and population. While some elite units, for instance the sacred band infantry, probably spend many years in training camp before they are sent to fight (but again, you can train many of them at the same time).

I tried to turn soldier's one turn' into zero turn recruits for my own personal mini mod for this EB, one for slow gameplay and one for fast gameplay.
I changed all of units codes from stat_cost 1 to stat_cost 0, same thing with stat_cost 2 to stat_cost 0. And I loaded campaign, all of my infantry still have 1 turn instead of zero turns. I decided to start a new campaign instead and stilll have 1 turn requirement of soldier to be trained.
UPDATE: BINGO! I found what wrong, when I clicked the single player shortcut of EB, unit files from sp game edu backup replaced export_descr_unit.txt in Data folder from their folder. So I edited unit file from sp game edu backup export_descr_unit.txt and it worked now!
Eagle out...

Keep in mind that there are two of the sp_backup folders if you installed the single player shortcut, one in the data folder and one in the immediate subfolder of the shortcut. So you'll be replacing 4 copies of export_descr_unit.txt. I always keep an extra copy handy in case of an error.

i finally made my first mod its for those who enjoy eb but want zero turn recruitment i have changed recruitment to zero on all infrantry archers all calvary. elephants and ships are still not zero though hope you enjoy and please comment and i will make a absolute zero if enough requests
click here or here even on smily if you like please plus my rep
and you can uninstall
p.s if anyone can make this a professional installer so that it overwrites all three places because not everyone would know how to install it and a unninstaller
Nice work , but there's a disadvantage.
Although I like the possibility of recruiting whole armies in one turn, I'm afraid that the AI can't handle it.
Someone over at the .org did it too and the result was absolute spamming of AI full stacks and of course AI controlled cities that had something like 400 or 500 citizens...
I'm really looking forward to see that feature in EBII but due to hardcoded game mechanics it unfortunately doesn't fit for EB I believe.
No offense meant , just my 2 cents...
non taken so got suggest any changes like i think levys only or make the upkeep riduclasly expensive so you will call an army out to defend then you will disban to save money but the side affect is your garrison will be a ripoff thanks for the comment
ps i will make one for eb2 it will be better beacuase of upkeep free units and i will only need to add more recruitment blocks
Could you perhaps write a script that could force a limit to recruitment once the city's population has hit a certain low number for it's size? Like a city that is upgraded from the 2000 hit to the 6000 hit for instance, you couldn't dip below that 6000 population marker once your city was upgraded.
Late reply, but thought I'd toss out the suggestion.
installed...
Thanks
very good and time-saving
What are the 3 places you need to install? I have found "eb/data" and "eb/sp game edu backup" but I can't find "EB/EB/dat". Any help would be appreciated...

it should be in the same folder as sp game edu backup if not it might be hidden for some reason
Windows Vista
instructions for vista
Windows XP
For xp
if you can't find i don't know how do you do screenshots so i can show you
I turned on 'show hidden folders' and that didn't work. To make a screen shot all you do is press the print screen button then go into paint and press "CTRL + V" and a picture will show up. The you just save it and upload. Thanks for the help by the way...
