The BinEditor did the trick, I've got it working now. Thanks and +rep to both of you for your help and patience - actually I have to spread it around first.

EDIT: and +rep to Mythic_Commodore of course for the tutorial

Hi, I'm new to modding, and I can't seem to convert the .bin files to .txt using the converter that was mentioned here. I've installed python and extracted the archive per the instructions, but nothing is happening. Is there something else I have to do?

Make sure you have this version of python installed that is v2.6-x86 version.

    THANKS!
"And indeed We created man (Adam) out of an extract of clay (water and earth). Thereafter We made him (the offspring of Adam) as a Nutfah (mixed drops of the male and female sexual discharge) (and lodged it) in a safe lodging (womb of the woman). Then We made the Nutfah into a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood), then We made the clot into a little lump of flesh, then We made out of that little lump of flesh bones, then We clothed the bones with flesh, and then We brought it forth as another creation. So blessed be Allah, the best of creators. After that, surely, you will die. Then (again), surely, you will be resurrected on the Day of Resurrection. And indeed We have created above you seven heavens (one over the other), and We are never unaware of the creation." (QS. Al-Mu'minun (23):12-17)

I got a little problem here. I am trying to mod Third Age Total War. The text folder has both a export_units.txt AND export_units.txt.strings.bin
What am I supposed to do? The converter works but it will overwrite the file. The export_units.txt has unit descriptions in it.

You edit the TXT version, the corresponding STRING.BIN file (from where the game reads the data) will be created new from your edited TXT file. That is, provided the formatting of the TXT file stays valid.

Sound like some bad formatting or as if you had accidently deleted the closing bracket "}"

Hello. I have got a problem with this guide. I am sure that I am doing everything ok, but my unit isn't visible in custom battle at all. I don't know why but I can even see it anywhere. Any suggestions how to fix it?

Invisible as in 'not available for selection'? That will be an entry in the attributes line in the EDU: no_custom - remove it and the unit will become available.
