    Default Barachan Trade talks

((Just to free this up from the on going convo in the diplomacy thread....))

A message is sent from a Barachan trade vessel in Leviathan space to the known economic ministry headquarters of the Commonwealth...

The message reads in Leviathan text.

We are attempting to set up trade with the Lotal people and the Asevian race. As well as make contact and set up trade with a race of people right next to the Lotal people. We are informing you, because you are the closest and first friend of the Barachan Freehold and a good trader. We will allow you to use our trade routes to connect to these three races, providing we can arrange a deal with them. In return, all we ask is that you help us patrol the confluence of trade along the D-sector. The trade routes will not cost you a cent, and as usual, there will be no tariff on the route.

We thank you for the time, and please respond at your leisure.

A message from the ministry is returned to the Barachan vessel, transmitted in the Barachan alphabet.

"It may be unknown to the Barachan Freehold Free Merchant Guild, but the Leviathan currently is in possession of a trade link to the Lotal Republic which has been in service nearly as long as the route between the freehold and the Commonwealth. It would only be a matter of acquiring permissions for Freehold merchant vessels to enter the Lotal Republic to establish an active trading relationship using the jointly funded Leviathan-Lotal tradelane. Meanwhile, the Commonwealth has received reports from its merchants within the Lotal Republic about a neighboring state that could be connected to our tradelane without any additional investment on our part.

The Freehold is welcome to use this tradelink at no cost; however should perhaps assume the responsibility for patrolling the D-Sector trade route.

((Should have been paying more attention))

    Reply beamed back immediately.

We were not aware of that. Could the location of said route be transmitted to us? Also, we had plans to cover the D-sector route as well. We are still considering adding a separate route to the Lotal Republic. This would ease the stress on your route, and would provide redundancy in case of an attack on one of the routes. And would make the D-sector route so important that it would be the only one really necessary to patrol. However we shall consider everything in detail.

Can we get landing coordinates, so we can discuss this matter more privately? We would like to hear your input on this matter. We value your opinion greatly.

    Message ends.

"Of course, landing space will be made available to you at Starport Franka-2, docking bay A-21. An automated guide will direct you to the conference area."

Two well appointed men and one woman exit the ship and follow the directions into the meeting room. Where they see the expected Leviathan's from what they hope is the ministry department.

They all take seats and the man on the right of the room speaks.

We would like to discuss this trade route in further. As we see it, connecting the D-sector route to the Lotal, as well hopefully building an Asevian route that will also trade with you and the Lotal, and perhaps an unknown group near Lotal will make the D-Sector route very, wealthy. It will also make ourselves and the Leviathans the most important trading nations in the region. This is very important to us. We strongly desire to improve our friendship through trade.

And with both of us as major economic trading partners in the region, we shall be in a position to dominate the economic stability of the region for years to come. This is our goal. We have noted that you are on of the more peaceful nations we have encountered. We have had one nation come and threaten us with destruction and another come and want us to go off to war against the first. We are willing to fight, and to fight hard. We are not willing to go to war at the drop of a hat. And it would appear that you hold the same belief.

We know that we made contact with you first, before all other people. We also know that you agreed to trade with us willingly. This makes you a dear friend, and an honored trading partner. Therefore we wish to present to you this opportunity to make both the Commonwealth and the Freehold stronger and more well connected.

Please take time to ponder this arrangement, and reply. All good trade is done with great care and patience.

With that he stops speaking and the woman in the center of the two men whispers something into the man's ear and he nods in agreement. And beings to speak again.

We would also like to thank you for this hospitality that you are showing us. You do us great honor.

He smiles and waits for a reply. The other man remains emotionless and the woman seems to have a smirk about her.

The Leviathan's Arms stretch down from inside him, their birdlike talons clack on a small computer screen mounted on the floor directly below him. A starchart appears on a screen near the translation console in the center of the room. ((Ignore the unknown nations.....))
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

"As you can see, the Tradelanes of the Leviathan already connect the Lotal Republic to the Barachan Freehold, while redundancies could be put in place, it would be a far better strategic move for the Freehold to initiate trade with these as of yet unknown Asevians as a method of creating a secondary route to the Lotal.

We are, however, very happy to hear that you value Leviathan Friendship; and rest assured that this value of our mutual friendship is shared among our people as well. The Freehold were the first, and happily friendly alien contact made by the Leviathan. We wish to continue this friendship, and through Economic Cooperation this is possible."

The merchants look at the map and smile. The woman says something to both men and the man on the right smiles and nods and begins to speak up.

Excellent, this is why we desired to land. We were not certain how your route was planned. This route is a very well planned route. You have a shrewd economic mind. We respect that greatly.

We shall certainly attempt to make a connection with the Asevians, and transmit communication information about them to your nation, so that you may benefit from increased trade.

    This is great news indeed!

Now, to the matter of patrolling the D-sector route. We have several frigates, as well call them, small fast warships that can patrol that route. What would you be willing to commit to the defense of the D-sector route?

We are going to propose this route, based on preliminary reports of the Asevian space that we briefly were able to record.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

At that point, our ships can patrol up to D-9 and your down to D-9. Thus covering that confluence, as the whole length of the trade route. I still expect pirate attacks, but nothing serious.

    Does this seem acceptable?

With that they all wait and the woman continues to beam a bright smile.
