    Default time period

hey i was wondering will it be the same time period? it'd be cool if it started about 350 bc and ended around 50 ad so we could have different hoplite units and such for the 350 bc and lorica segmentata for the first 50 years of ad.

They may change this though, but I doubt they will do it that radically. Starting the game before Alexander would require many different factions and units, and that would be simply too much work.

The game will definately start in 272BC (or possibly winter 273BC because of some script thing). The end date isn't set in stone and is actually quite arbitrary, but it really isn't likely that the time span of the game will be extended.

    No.

Funny how people always try to sneak Lorica Segmentata in.

What will winter 273 BC start mean for this game:

    - Egypt will start with more land in Levant and Anatolia?
    - Tarentum will belong to Romans since the beginning?
    - No Pyrrhus in the game since he died in Argos already?

I think you confusing BC with AD. If Phyrros was alive in 272 BC, he can't have died in 273 BC, now can he?

I always thought that Pyrrhos was already in Pella by 272 BC(E). Is the justification for putting him outside the city one of game balance or am I just wrong?

No, Pyrrhos had taken the inland Makedonian cities by 272BC. But since Antigonos still held the coastal cities and the inland cities immediately returned to Antigonos by the end of the year, it was decided to give the whole province to Antigonos. If there were more province slots in the RTW/M2TW engine you would probably see something like the cities of Pella and Salonika in Makedonia in the hands of Pyrrhos and Antigonos respectively.

If its 4 turns per year, BC 350-50 AD.. you do the math... wouldn't even reach BC 200 in an aggressive campaign.

Well please pray for the third age section as well, his tongue of corruption has started to gain a very small foothold over there as well.

Say it ain't so! Well, at least historical inaccuracy won't be an issue there, though I'm sure his comments will drive lore-lovers mad.

Hehe...It's just that we're all insane sociopaths with an obsession with historical accuracy. Any toe-stepping in that department drives us into a frenzied rage.

Don't take it too hard. Most of us are only half serious.

The spartan hoplites are in phalanx.

Starting the game earlier wouldn't make them any "phalanxier"...

What you have in mind is the Makedonian phalanx.

Unless the Spartans you are talking about used spears 6 meters long, they didn't use the Makedonian phalanx.
