    sparta total war 3 is the mod i always wanted to play, unfortunately i couldnt mod when rtw came out, but now i can ~ thanks to all the great modders out there.

    about the mod.

    release; in around a month or so.

    when is the mod set? the game starts at thermopolae. from turn one you will be thrown straight into one of the most epic battles and wars of all time! persia has a massive empire but the greeks have the most formidable infantry in the western world. not only can you beat them back [if you are good!] but you can then make colonies all over the map.

    play as...

    sparta: you will be in command of the greek armies at thermopolae, you will also be able to command units from city states that you later defeat e.g. athens. according to who you beat you will gain control over specialist units e.g. aetolian pirates and many localised hoplites, cretan archers and athenian marine archers. once in command of a couple of greek states you can then go attack persia in their own territory. later you can defeat the armies of alexander and the romans.

    macedon: hold back the persians take a few greek states e.g. thessaly, and after around 70 - 100 turns you will command the later alexandrian armies of powerful pikemen, flexible hypaspists and companion cavalry. maybe once you conquored persia you will defeat the now strong romans.

    rome: take command of the early romans with their greek and latin style units, then defeat the etruscans to the north and the grecians to the south. by this time [around 90 truns] you will be able to recruit the more powerful triarii, hestati and principles. what can stop you then, the carthaginians? the celts? then the greeks ~ who will be thinking they control the world? perhaps no one will stop you!

    persia: it could have been so different! as persia you can thunder across the greek plains and crush them every single one. nothing can then stop you from going on to conquor europe and north africa. perhaps a more cunning general would conquor africa and iberia first, although you will already have much more territory than any one else. so maybe it is just about tactics, if the gods are on your side that is!

    thanks, i just finished the spartan standard bearer and spartan king [general [officer type]], and am starting the persians tomorrow.

    there are loads of greek units left to show too, i havent done any of epirus as yet. i have put hours of work into each unit [not so much the archers and peltasts as they need to be simple], so even medium cav and ordinary hoplites look nice imho.

    i'll get more screenies up in due time.

    thanks, it will yes, i have nearly finished the persians and they look awesome too, all i need is someone to make a few banners and symbols and it is done. well as long as i leave the cultures alone.

    no problem i will do them myself ~ i was just trying to speed the process up.

    progress:

    persia; units complete, + unit cards, banners and symbols. mainly using models from rop, re-skinned.

    italians; romans early hoplites done, faction now complete. grecians done, etruscans units in place just need to re-skin them.

    all that needs to be done is to add some units to dacians and that is it for the units.

    spartan666 is finishing the desc_strat, so once i done the banners and symbols for all the new greek factions, then change the cultures for them and it is done.

    i was going to release a week ago, but had decided to make all factions playable and hence make unit cards for them all and generally polish it up a bit.

    perhaps 2 weeks.

    added; epirot mastifs [powerful wardogs] with new handler, done unit cards, redone banner and standard bearer.

    all germans reskinned and cards made [did i say that before lols].

    persian immortal now has new armour ~ not the same as the new armour i had previously given them.


    here are 3 of the new spartan units you can recruit once you take the given region.


    faction symbols done, not all are great, but i done the best i can for now, there will be updates.

    very bright sheilds ... give them a darker colour to turn that effect down.

    hmm yes i will have a look, although it maybe as i put the contrast up by 5 points on these images, to make unit cards from them, i find it makes them look clearer when resized where unit cards are only 64 picels high.

    as i said before the overhand skeleton is in there one from ROP and another from XGM. the reason why i like the vanilla one is that it restricts movement and keeps the formation tighter ~ as it should be, the phalanx was a tight bond of men, this gave it its strength and weakness. more flexible troops will out manoeuvre them as it should be.

    it will be released as vanilla phalanx! but you or anyone else can easily change it just by removing the attribute ‘phalanx’ in the EDU file and adding the skeleton of choice in the DMB file. the models have their own shorter spear built in to the .cas file which will appear when you take of the phalanx attribute.

    below is another new armour type i made, it is a scale armour used by persians and scythians alike but only on a couple of elite units. what do you think?
