Thread: Graphics Card Ranking List

    Default Graphics Card Ranking List

Hey guys. I have this list going over at the Naked Fanatics forums that I somewhat regularly update. Its a list of almost all video cards ranked by performance with their typical price labelled as well. I hope this will help out some people looking to upgrade their system. This list was originally found at overclock.ent, however I have made a lot of edits over the course of a year. Some of the prices I added are quite outdated, especially on older cards. But recent ones are fairly up-to-date.

I personally have an MSI 8800GT 512MB. I run all TW games maxed out, except for Europa Barborum, which seems to have a lot of problems on a lot of people's systems.

"Therefore I am not in favour of raising any dogmatic banner. On the contrary, we must try to help the dogmatists to clarify their propositions for themselves. Thus, communism, in particular, is a dogmatic abstraction; in which connection, however, I am not thinking of some imaginary and possible communism, but actually existing communism as taught by Cabet, Dézamy, Weitling, etc. This communism is itself only a special expression of the humanistic principle, an expression which is still infected by its antithesis – the private system. Hence the abolition of private property and communism are by no means identical, and it is not accidental but inevitable that communism has seen other socialist doctrines – such as those of Fourier, Proudhon, etc. – arising to confront it because it is itself only a special, one-sided realisation of the socialist principle."

God bless the Voodoo 1 bringing up the rear! All those other cards owe a lot to 3DFX, may history never forget the name Voodoo 1.

I can’t describe how good the Voodoo 1 was when it first arrived I can’t think of any other hardware upgrade that made such a dramatic change to how my games looked and played.

Indeed, Freddie. The first 3DFX was a big step in visual goodness. I was too young at the time to remember it. I probably came into the tech world around the time of the Geforce 5500 and the Radeon 9550. But I do remember games around the time of that first release.

Yeah, a 7950GX2 is so rare these days. That's why its so expensive. It's almost a collector's item as the first 1GB card.

Odovacar, prices on the video card market have dropped significantly over the course of a year. Even newer cards are selling for a lot less than older cards were when they were first released. An excellent bang for the buck is the HD4670 or the 9600GT. You can even find GDDR2, underclocked versions for around $75. A GDDR3 9600GT can run Crysis on Medium-High settings.

I have to say the 8800 series from nvidia is a god send, and the prices on the units have dropped a good bit since the release of the 9000's and the 260 (which i think is retarded) and the 280. Although ATI have stepped up their game up lately, with their release of the 4000's. Combining a great price with a great card... I think nvidia may be in trouble.

Unless your Monitor supports a resolution of at least 1920x1200 you will see a performance loss with the 1gb card, The card is simply memory bandwidth constrained at any resolution to take full advantage of 1gb of memory.

In a less demanding game like COD4 you will need to run 2560x1600 to see an improvement with the 1GB. In most cases a FPS *GAIN* will be seen at lower than 2560x1600 with the 512MB version.

Some of the cards don't have display memory
    they show .
They could get as much as they show
on mobo which support dual VGA like crossfire
but otherwise you got to half them to be correct
    or notify.
    I got
" Card name: ATI Radeon HD 3850 X2
    Manufacturer: ATI Technologies Inc.
Chip type: ATI Radeon Graphics Processor (0x9513)
    DAC type: Internal DAC(400MHz)
    Device Key: Enum\PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9513&SUBSYS_01F01043&REV_00
    Display Memory: 1024.0 MB"
But eventual memory on ordinary, not xfire, mother board is
    512 MB

I'm sorry, but I could not understand your post.

If you are wondering why I didn't include memory on all the cards, its because I usually only do them on ones that have two different amounts of mem on the card. Others are copy and paste from overclock.net.

I meant that some cards don't have memory as shown
for example 3850x2 has 1024 Mb,but only if install on crossfire
    motherboard,otherwise it has 512 MB
