Little guide for local moderators
Note: If you have any suggestion to complete this guide, please post it. Most of these informations may be obvious for some members. It is meant to be a guide for newbies.
1. THE FUN SIDE - What privileges do local mods enjoy?
- You can change your user title to anything you'd like to. To do this click on "my account" --> edit your details --> custom user title
- Your name will stand out as it will shine in silver. If you can't change your user title or your name is not in grey, PM an admin to put you in the "local moderators" group.
- Your name will be listed in the bottom right corner of the forum where you have local mod powers. Example:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:- You will see some things not every member is able to see.
For example you will see if a thread or a post has been deleted in all fora of TWC. If this is within your domain, you can also view the deleted post or view the original version of a modified post. To do this click on the "View post" link on the right. Example:

2. MODERATION TOOLS - What you can do as a local mod
- Before you do anything it is important to study the ToS. You don't have to know it by heart, but try to observe at least the basic rules.
- Note that these actions are only available in your own area (where you are appointed as a local mod)
- 2.1. POST MODERATION TOOLS: the post moderation tools menu can be found in the bottom right corner of a thread page. You can merge, move, copy, delete and undelete posts.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
To perform any of these actions, you have to select the post(s) you want to moderate by checking the box on the right of the post. If you have selected a post it will appear in yellow.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:- Important! Beware that you are able to edit every post in every thread in your local forum. So be cautious as the "Edit Post" button is just next to the "Quote" and "Reply" buttons (in the bottom right corner of a post). Don't mix up these buttons.
Edit only those posts that need editing for ToS violation (off-topic, hard-to-read post, insult, obscene content, promoting illegal activites, etc.) or for other verifiable purpose.
- You can see post edit history by clicking on the "last edited by ..." button.
- 2.2. THREAD MODERATION TOOLS IN THE FORUM VIEW
- The thread moderation tools menu can be found in the bottom right corner of a forum page. You can delete, undelete, open, close, stick, unstick, move and merge threads:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
To perform any of these actions, you have to select the thread(s) you want to moderate by checking the box on the right of the thread. If you have selected a thread it will appear in yellow.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
You can also perform a mass-action by selecting multiple threads. In my example I am mass-deleting precious AAR threads.![]()
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:- Useful tip: as you are able to edit every thread in your forum in all aspects, you are obviously able to edit thread names. The easiest way to do this is to double-click on the thread title in the forum view, and bingo, you can edit the thread title.
- 2.3. THREAD MODERATION TOOLS WITHIN THE THREAD:
The thread moderation tools are also available within every thread of your forum, in the upper right corner. Here you have 2 new options: one of them is the "Edit Thread". By choosing this action, you are able to stick/unstick or close/reopen threads. There's another new option here, the "Copy Thread" that allows you make replicas of a thread.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Note that if you post in a thread, you have these 2 new options in the advanced editor mode as well. Close/re-open a thread and stick/unstick a thread. This is very handy, because you don't have go to the forum view and perform these actions after you posted. See the options in the bottom of this screenshot:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:- 2.4. THREAD MOVEMENT: to do this you must have the required permission (and local mod powers) in all forums from which you have selected threads or posts. Let's see an example. Select the thread you'd like to move to another place, select "Move Threads" from the menu and click "Go".
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Now you can choose to leave a shadow of the thread and redirect those to the new location who click on this shadow. You have the option to set the time of the redirection. Seven days should be enough in most cases.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Now select the subforum where you'd like to move the thread. If you're a TWCrack like me you should have a whole lot of options here.In my example I am faking the movement of an admin's thread to the Necropolis.

- 2.5. SECURITY LOGIN: Upon performing an action, don't be surprised if you get a vBulletin message asking you to login again. Just type in your password and proceed. You won't be required to log in for every moderator action, but only for some (like thread deletion). This is just a security double-check, so that your little brother can't start mass-deleting threads while you are away from your computer.

3. LIMITS OF THY POWER - What you can't do as a local mod
- Deletion: this is an important point. Deletion always means soft deletion for local mods, as only admins can delete posts or threads permanently. Delete posts/threads that are unnecessary (off-topic), or fundamentally breach the ToS, but in this case, use the report button too. Don't forget that you can always choose to undelete any deleted post or thread.
- You can't give warnings or hand out infractions and can't ban members from your forum. It is a job of the global mods and admins.
- You can't edit polls. If you'd like to edit a poll, PM a global mod or an admin.
- You can't make new subforums within your subforum. Only admins can do this. If you have subforum requests, PM an admin, currently Aradan.
- As I mentioned before you can only move threads to a location where you also have local mod powers.
