Default Is M&B "Aimless" Without Mods?

So, I was just reading a PC Gamer article that was praising M&B modders and mods. Can be found here

    http://www.gamesradar.com/f/filling-...21122847445059

I found myself agreeing with most of the points in this article. Vanilla M&B just seems pointless and like your going no where. I was playing M&B when I tabbed out of it to read this article and by the time I finished reading it, I just exited M&B. Thoughts?

I think the game is too weak and boring without any mods. I totally agree with the article.

I suppose he has valid points, but I still can play Vanilla longer than most games.

I play Vanilla sometimes in between patches. Mods are the reason I stick around though.

M & B is a good game in it's own, though I wouldn't play it like I do without mods.

Is M&B "Aimless" Without Mods? Yes. And its wonderful. No campaign, just a world. Beautiful if you can accept the mindset difference. You make your own campaign.

Basically M&B is a "grand strategy game" with tactical and RPG elements.

And the final goal of the game is, obviously, defeat all other factions.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I've always wanted to play a "sandbox game" that was innately friendly to being modified. You see this is the thing people don't seem to understand. Mount&Blade is for you to mod! Personally I'm tired of trite RPG storylines. I want a world I can explore and manipulate, a world where the fun isn't in the story, but the story I create.

This too people seem to miss. I think because it is not an easy thing to accomplish. Thank God!

It's not really that hard once you take down one kingdom, after that you have enough money, troops, and land to take anything.

Yep Armagan stated specificly that he wanted to create a game that would be fun to play, but more importantly verry moddable, and he was verry anxious to see what kind of creative mods would be created.

P.S. Armatus, for some reason, sometimes I think you are actually Armagan in disguise

is there any mod, that adds new factions, units, quests, stuff, but still with the old factions (old ones + new ones)

but in a realistic way ?

with the same athmosphere the original version has ?

without making a big overhaul ?

    something like SS, M&B version...

Vanilla M&B is interesting when you first play it, since it is one of the very few games that does mounted combat well. But other than combat, the game is weak, and once you've had enough fun with combat, it gets really dry. The Mods pretty much save the game, as they bring in new content and atmosphere, especially the historical mods.

if you play it too long, it will eventualy make you feel useless. it's my opinion lol. without mods, it gets boring too fast. it's true, you can make your own history... but it's not the same thing. The fun in a game having a history is like reading a book. You WANT to know what's going to happen. Mount and blade has nothing of that...

I'm just glad the foundation was laid. Sometimes as fans we can get carried away always wishing for more. Well as this thread is titled "is M&B aimless without mods?" Well depends on what you expect from the game. Certainly as a combat simulation the only thing that would make the game pointless is the fact there is no player vs player. So let's look to the future of Mount&Blade, a sequel that will contain much of what we now wish for. As you know the combat will only get better and the world richer.
