I recently found out there's a company called Magitech Corporation which seems to be porting Japanese-made strategy RTS/TBS hybrids similar to the TW series. Their games don't look to be quite as good as the TW series, but they do look interesting at least. They seem to have 3 series(all games for the PC), a Chinese one, a Japanese one, and a Rome vs. China one:
Sango Series
Focuses on China, specifically the Three Kingdoms period which was popularized by KOEI's Dynasty Warriors and Romance of the Three Kingdoms franchises. The latest in the series is Sango 2, which I guess is somewhere in between your M1:TW and your R:TW at least as far as graphics are concerned. Since it's a Japanese/Chinese game the Features list is hard to make sense of really.

Seems a Demo can be downloaded from their site here: Here. Can be purchased here for $30.
Takeda Series
The equivalent focused in the Sanguo Japan area. It has a more cartoony feel but otherwise seems to equal R:TW in terms of graphics and systems. The newest release is Takeda 3, but they are still looking for an English publisher.

The newest available one is Takeda 2, and it looks pretty cool. Can find a Demo download here if you scroll down a bit: http://www.ezgame.com/Takeda2/support.htm
A preview of the game prior to its release was made here: http://www.escmag.com/v5/reviews/review.cfm?rv=461

Strength & Honor Series
This one looks especially curious. If you look at some of the screenshots, they look a bit like the Rome map. The twist is that it seems to span from Rome to China, you know... the kind of thing people always talk about in the VV, legions vs. chinese, well here it is, you can fight the chinese with the romans. Since it was asian made the chinese will also be well-represented. There seems to be a #2 in the works but I couldn't find any good information on it.
Info on Strength&Honor can be found here. It seems to retail for $30 from their website.

Has anyone played any of these games? I think I'll probably download the Demos where available and post a review when I get a chance, not sure when that will be. If you're someone who can still have fun playing a game like Medieval 1 Total War, I'd say definitely give these games a shot, at least the Demos any way.
