    Default Historical Battles?

Are we going to have historical battles for this mod?
If yes what did you have in mind?

    I'll give my three ideas

    • Battle of Edington (Alfred the Great ''King of Wessex'' defeats the Danish vikings under Guthrum the Old.)

    • Battle of Tettenhall (Mercia and Wessex defeat an army of invading Danish viking which would be the last great army sent by the Danes)

    • Battle of Brunanburh (Wessex defeats an army combined of Norsemen, Scots and Welsh warriors) I would like to add a 1:3 scenario.

Yes, it is a good idea. I have already thought about this and I have already got in touch with davide.cool but he haven’t answered yet.

Would be good to have some time to do this?
Would someone like to do the custom battle track for this? Or the historical research work?

you're not including Norway itself, but two norse jarldoms, so I think it would be possible to do the battle by just chosing the one that fits better

I'll chip in and recommend the Siege of Paris.

Sorry, I didnt mean Norway, but one of the factions there. But by the way, I dont think this battle will be compatible in the game, because the King of Norway participated in this battle in the year of 1066, the year this mod ends. It could be possible though

how hard it is to make a battle ? Bit nerves for editor and information of what the battleground really looked like is enough ?

    Some ideas:

    Britain

Battle of Ashingdon - 1016 Denmark vs. Wessex/England
Cnut the Great of Denmark defeats the English army in the decisive battle of his campaign against them (though it may be more of a suprise attack, as Edmund was suprised and supposedly sold out by his disloyal earl Eadric Streona) Edmund II of England is killed, and Cnut assumes the throne.

Battle of Stainmore - 954 Northumbria vs. Norwegian faction
The Norse Kingdom of Jorvik is destroyed and Erik Bloodaxe of Norway is killed, but rather than reemerging as a kingdom Northumbria is absorbed into England.

    Ireland

Battle of Tara - 980 Ui Neill (Connacht) vs. Norwegian faction
Olaf Cuaran, King of Dublin and (formerly) York leads a great Norse army to Temhair na Ri, where he is decisively defeated by High King Mael Sechnaill II, who proceeds to sack Dublin. Although overshadowed in history by Clontarf (see below) this is probably the more likely point for the destruction of Norse power in Ireland.

Battle of Clontarf - 1014 Munster vs. Norwegian faction + Irish faction
The largest and most famous battle of the Viking Age in Ireland. Brian Boruime mac Cennetig, High-King and self-styled Emperor of the Irish defeats his rebellious vassals Mael Mordha of Leinster and Sigtryggr of Dublin and his Norse allies. The Norse/Irish army is destroyed, but most of the leaders on both sides fall in the battle, leaving it something of a phyrric victory.

    Continental

Battle of Jengland - 851* Franks vs. Brittany (Gwynedd)
The greatest battle in the history of Britanny. Erispoe, Duke of Britanny, uses Celtic light cavalry tactics to decisively defeat a much larger Frankish army under King Charles the Bald, leading to a treaty which guaranteed Breton independence for centuries. (This is slightly outside of both the timeframe and scope, but would be a really interesting battle from a tactical standpoint, and the East Franks and Gwynedd respectively can stand in without too much difficulty)

Battle of Leuven - 891 Frankish Empire vs. Denmark
Major field victory for the Franks over a large invading Danish army, ending Norse operations in the Low Countries.

Battle of Stiklestad - 1030 Vestfold vs. Hordaland (Norwegian civil war)
Major battle in the history of Norway, the exiled king Olaf II returns in order to reclaim the throne but is defeated and killed by a much larger "peasant army" - ironically providing the impetus for the solidifying of the Norwegian monarchy.

These are three battles I would suggest. I know it is wikipedia links and wikipedia may not always be 100% but I read a bit and it seems they've got it right.

    The Battle of Maldon, 991
    The Battle of Clontarf, 1014
    The Battle of Stiklestad, 1030

EDIT: Didn't notice some of these were already suggested. Oh well here's the links anyway for further reading.

We're not going to include Norway.
Kingdom of Vestfold became Kingdom of Norway, can just use Vestfold then

I think you should add the battle at Hafrsfjord in 872. It was by this battle Norway was united.
You should also delete Hordaland and add Rogaland or Agder, Hordaland was one of the weakest of the Norwegian petty states. While Vestfold, Rogaland, Agder and Trøndelag was the most powerfull (it that order).

Or you could add the battle at Stamford bridge or Fullford (each of these to are from 1066

I could probably do the voiceover work for the battle descriptions.

We should try for a nice selection covering as many factions in as many situations as possible, however, we shouldn't neglect the big battles of the era either.

I think the Battle of Maldon would make a nice tutorial battle to introduce the players to the new Saxon and Viking factions.

I think the various other battle suggestions that have been made are all good ideas, but we should perhaps slim it down to a final list.

All of these depends on how many battles the devs area ble to make with the time we have.

Hafrsfjord was a naval battle. Naval battles are not included in MTW2.

And you are slightly incorrect on the order of which kingdoms where the most powerful. While Vestfold was the most powerful I came up with using Hordaland as the name for the other faction when I was still involved in this project to represent the western alliance that was against king Harald, it could might as well have been Rygaland. Including Trønderlag and Northern Norway as a faction, the Håløygkonung, or Jarl of Hladir as they later became, would be pointless as they became the allies and vassals of Harald at the very start of this mod. Though they were in fact more powerfull than any single western kingdom.

These are very good ideas but can somebody help me to complete them.
The creation of the battle map is the coding? My team has no time for it and we don’t have any practise in it.
    So, anyone?
