    Default The New Walls Project

I have decided to start my work on the new walls yet again. The previous attempt was an utter failure and left me with dozens of useless wall pieces and collision info.

This time around though, I'm using the Stone Wall base as a starting point, to make sure the walls match when put together. This time around they will look more simple and less wooden or so. Hopefully this time around you will have playable wooden walls.
For your interest, they are ~60% the height of the Stone Walls.

Also, I don't (unfortunately) have that much free time on my hands, so I'll try my best to keep you guys updated on the progress, though it probably won't go that fast.

RedFox, that looks fantastic. When you get this done, I would love permission to use it.

    Good luck, and happy modding!

RedFox, walls look awesome. Would reduced height mean that all the siege equipment, besides battering ram and sapping point, cannot be used?
(Edit: Could this mismatch in height cause any errors/CTDs?)

RedFox, I wonder if this could be an opportunity to change something in settlement defenses, limit the access to siege equipment, and make sieges a more bloody and time-consuming affair. Like getting rid of palisade (1st level vanilla walls) for civilized factions at least, cutting access to certain siege equipment etc.

    (1. vanilla wooden walls (only battering ram) - 2. reduced in height stone walls (still only battering ram, which can be used only to breech gates and not walls; and no access to any other siege equipment!?) - 3. vanilla stone walls - etc...)

I was actually planning on this: 1) Vanilla Wooden Walls -> 2) New Wooden Defenses/walls -> 3) Vanilla Stone Walls...

I'm not going to aim for looks or quality at first, just to get it working will be good enough at first and it can be polished later on. The mismatch in height will not be a problem, it won't cause a CTD, but I will have to make a new set of siege towers and possibly you won't be able to use ladders on the Stone Walls any longer.

These are planned to be wooden walls - they don't look very wooden because I'm keeping them simplified to avoid CTD's at first (all vertices have 0.25/0.5/1.0 accurate positioning, to make sure the walls fit together perfectly).
I will add necessary details to make them look more wooden once they work in-game without any hitches.

To answer your question on which siege equipment will be available:
    Definitely: Rams
    Highly Possible: Siege Tower
    Hard to guess: Ladders
    Unknown: Sap points

After a bit of work on it, it took a rather disgusting resemblance to Medieval designs, so I decided to restart the top part of it. For now, this is the first 'finished' version of the gateway. I will now start working on other wall sections. I am open to any suggestions for improvement on the design though, so don't be afraid to state your opinion on the matter.
Hopefully it has a more 'wooden' look to it now.

And yes, the weird thing in the middle is the approx. size of a soldier.

I didn't want to trouble myself too much with the joiner slots, so instead of wider walkable parts like on the Gateway,
this one has wooden beams and struts to keep the wall strong and sturdy.

Walls look more wood-ish indeed, RedFox. Nice work. Looking forward to see how they behave in game, even a first unpolished version.

Final update for today, didn't have as much time to work on the pieces as I would have liked though.

Seriously cool stuff. I'd like to see this in XGM as well some day! Just out of curiosity since you seem to know wall modding pretty well is it possible to make a wall you can place siege units on?
