LITHUANIA EARLY ERA UNSPECIFIED ERROR(savegame, trace log + screenie)!

As the title says, playing as Lithuania, during AI's turn I got an illusive "unspecified error" message..after clicking ok the game CTD's!

The UE message pop's up during portugal's turn! Tried loading a few times, but I always get a CTD at the same turn..

Error log says nothing..

There's the latest autosave(in RAR), some few lines of the trace log and a screenshot provided!

Any help with resolving(or finding the cause of the error) would be very welcome!

Sorry, can't use the savegame because of personal submods. Log contains the following dreaded lines seen before most of my own random CTDs:

What, if any, submods are you using?

If you watch the end turn with FOW off, are there any battles or sieges that are fought/resolved by the AI just before the crash?

Same problem as aduellist - my set-up is now highly idiosyncratic - means I can't load other people's save games. Also have a couple of issues I need to sort out on my set-up too!

SdP - what was the state of your family tree immediately prior to the CTD?
What turn were you on?

I've noticed lithuania disappear without observable cause when it had 4 regions before now. It may be suffering from the same problem as the Templars - insufficient family to maintain faction (especially if heir dies in first attacks?)

Have you tried the 6.2 patch?

have you modded the traits to remove the kingmaker triggers?

which sub-mods do you have?

I have plenty of family members..I think my turn is fine, it's portugals turn when crash appears!

Not yet..waiting for the full version(with new rosters)!

No..but maybe those triggers are causing the ctd during porugals turn..

Well it's a longer list(many little and irrelevant mods that improve appearance) so I'm gonna list only the big'uns:

-6.1 patch
-Last complete version of RR/RC, not the latest one(I think it's 1.2/1.3)
-SSTC

I guess that's all of the big ones! Also using(Crimson Tide, burning men, torch mod, darker nights, new strat castles, real cavalry charge, emergent KOJ script, lusteds smooth terrain, Y's new cards)!

Rozanov, do you maybe see something in the trace log?

apart from those movie files I'm not seeing anything out of the ordinary (not that I examine the trace files anyway - too much data, not enough eyes.)

There is a bug related to the Kingmaker ancilliary that can be triggered causing a CTD. If you don't have the latest Quark traits file, open the export_descr_ancilliaries.txt file and place a ; (semi-colon) in front of all the trigger lines from

down to
AcquireAncillary kingmaker2 chance 40
(inclusive)

normally the kingmaker problem will show in the error log so poss not the problem here.

with so many sub-mods it's going to be a nightmare trying to work out exactly what's causing the problem. I doubt anyone has an identical set-up to test the save game on.

I did just now..found some other people posting logs of CTD's that also had those faction lose movies, but no one offered a solution to the problem..

I guess unspecified error CTD remains a mystery!

BTW what is the console command for killing an enemy character?

It is

kill_character "name"

I don't remember exactly the rule but i think if the name is in 3 or more parts you need to use underscore like for exemple "Thorsten Von_Habsburg"

These can be very frustrating to troubleshoot. For example, I finally tracked down one recurrent CTD of this type to rebel settlement Pamplona. By watching the end turn with FOW off, I observed a siege at Pamplona resolved that turn. Another member also determined they were experiencing apparently the same Pamplona CTD. Experimented with using "move_character" to move besieging army away from Pamplona. Voila! No CTD. Finally, through an amalgamation of information from discussion among a few members, we tracked down that a sub-mod (still not sure which one) had changed the rebel character in Pamplona. I reset descr_strat to the same character record as base 6.1 and have not experienced that CTD ever gain.

There was never an error message that indicated what the problem was with the character "Joao" that was in Pamplona and I still have no real idea why that character was causing a CTD, but changing back to the base character record cured it.

Oh, how I long for complete and useful logging!

I observed yesterday the AI's turn with fow off, and discovered that CTD occurs during Portugal's turn, when they move the assassin..

But still not sure does that assassin causes the CTD, or the thing that is about to happen right after the assassin makes the move..gonna report tomorrow!

Anyway just a suggestion. The faction movies in the fmv file live in the M2TW data folder, not the Stainless steel one. I've unpacked my M2TW files so maybe that helps the prog to find them?

Has anyone tried copying them over to the SS data/fmv folder? It might be a time out problem.

Apparently not as lazyrhino tried out this and still got the crash.

Yes, I think it was OTZ AoR that changed the character.

Ok guys..I'm very pleased to inform you that I have RESOLVED the unspecified error CTD I was getting!

I pinpointed the exact place of the error through fow off(toggle_fow), and watching the AI moves, during AI's turn!

It seems that a certain Martim da Cunha(roaming on the Italian peninsula), a Portugal's family member was causing the crash..damn rascal!

So I used the show_cursorstat(with cursor above the character) command through console, and move command(move_character "Martim da_Cunha" x,y), to move him onto the nearby Portugal ship!

That helped, but only because the ship I put him on, has disappeared the next turn and Martim now seems to be stuck in the sea, just by the Italian coast(check the thumbs)!

I know his "stuckness" helped, because when I moved him the next turn near Oporto, the game CTD'd again!

Yet remains a mystery why is the movement of this character causing the unspecified error message, but it's good to know that there is a bypass for it!*

So at the end..a big thank you to Rozanov for taking interest in this matter, and a HUGE thanx to Aduellist for showing me how to use the "move command"! You guys rock!

*BTW..maybe the same can be applied to the guy who's having the unspecified error issue in his TO campaign..

Back when i was working on the names file, it came to my attention that certain names could possibly cause battle CTD's. There was like 5 of them - they were using non-standard characters in descr_names and descr_names_lookup which are coded with ANSI... well the text/descr_names is coded with Unicode, and that could cause the problems. I have fixed them like hopefully the rest of the bugged names in the patch.

I have resolved the CTD too by your method. I have move several Irish captains to other locations and the truns pass well without CTD.
But it is just temporarily resolved.....looking forward to a real fix that can root out the problem.

I wonders if Santiago your campaign has faction destoryed during the AI turns. In my TO campaign, after the successful end turn, I was told that HRE is destoryed.....don't know if it is related to the _lose.bik

I have the same " Pause on " Error on my log, I'm desperately trying to fix it as it is my hotseat -_-;

It happens when i click Next turn as pinpointed, Rebels to new turn. I am unsure of what is causing this though, if it is a heritic, or just a trigger from the new faction's turn (Which is human) Or is it pirate spawn? i don't know! lol..

I do not have it as watch AI, as it is a hotseat game, but.. any way i can really find out what is causing this..?

Either way, It crashes when i attempt to log into the next turn by clicking Turn done, or by loading a file that some one else has loaded, and had worked!, -_-; damn them random crashes!

I suspect the minor_lose.bik entries in the trace log are a red herring.

The debug in brackets suggests that it is a placemarker that was left in so people debugging the prog had an easy way of identifying when the human player's turn starts (or maybe ends.) If you look at the script trace log, for example, it's practically impossible to identify which faction's entires you're looking at unless a specific place name is mentioned.

It appears to be located immediately after the strategy map is drawn. The .bik file is (I presume) always that of the faction - (or minor faction if not one of the original major factions) relating to the human player, but that file should only normally be activated if the player actually has lost, which evidently isn't the case in any of the error reports.

The only reason it turns up at the end of the trace logs may be that it's the last thing written to the file after a certain type of crash has happened. I notice it usually is accompanied by an unspecified error report - which shows the main game prog has exited tidily and not had a spectacular crash (I had one of those and the error log just ended without any .bik file or unspecified error.

I think you're right.

Based on what I've experienced and others have reported, I think it's most likely related to the bugged names Gracul pointed out. I know changing the "Joao" character fixed the Pamplona CTD, and SdP's CTD is obviously related to a specific character. So I guess a cleaned/debugged names.txt and/or descr_names.txt may be the key to eliminating a lot of these.
