I didnt like the design that peter jackson used for the elven buildings. The book is written in the perspective of people living in the universe, so obviously the architecture must have seemed like it had been formed by magic to the the hobbits. Imagine growing up living in a hole in a hill then arriving in a massive city formed by hundreds of generations of expert carpenters, you are likley to exagurate the scale of it all. In the books Rivendale is a fortress, in the movies it looks like a holiday spa resort.
The buildings should look like they have been crafted by the best carpenters in the whole world, rather than the ott, almost cartoony style that Jackson went for. Although its the teams call what is final.
