    I found what it was making my mod folder look 1 gb bigger, it was the sound folder. any ways mine work find now ready for the next lesson!

    Right click My Computer, select Manage. Open Event Viewer and look for an error in the unpacker.
    For vista too?

    edit: I found it and it says nothing on the unpacker.

    It's somewhat weird because it worked before I reinstalled my MTW2...
    Kingdoms unpacking still works fine...

    Is it possible to go with kingdomsfiles?

    u would have to do it all as kingdoms, and i think that would be too complicated with the class focused on M2TW. Kingdoms doesn't have any vanilla txt files in it as far as i know. but u'd have to check with GED to make sure.

    All set to go. My mod folder is 33.6 MB, but I don't think that's a problem since I have all the required files.

    Are you logged in as an Administrator?
    Is the Vista UAC interfering? If so you can disable it to unpack, but I suggest you turn it back on afterwards.
    Have you checked to see what needed files are not getting unpacked? If its just a couple you can unpack single files, there are instructions in the tools folder.
    You can try booting to Safe Mode and then unpacking.
    If all that fails let me know which files you are missing.

    I followed all the steps and can get the game to load, but am a bit confused as to where the ModBasics.bat file goes. Right now, when I try running it from within "/mods/ModBasics/", the window opens quickly, then crashes without doing anything. However, it works fine when I placed it in "/M2:Total War/" and ran it from there (.bat window opens up, game loads and I can navigate the menus/play custom battles).

    The only problem I have with running the .bat from within the root directory is that I can't get campaigns to start. I get to the faction selection screen, but when I try starting one, it kicks me back to the "single player" menu. ModBasics folder is 32.5mbs in size and the "saves" folder, audio files, etc have all been generated by the game.

    So I've got a few questions:

    1 - Should we be able to start campaigns at this point in the course? If so, can you think of what I've done wrong at this point?

    2 - Should the .bat file be able to work in "/mods/ModBasics/" as well as in the root directory?

    3 - Does "show_err" work in M2 shortcuts, or is it just with Rome:TW?

    1. Yes you will be able to. I spotted a problem in the .cfg file.

    For those of you who want to start the 2nd lesson, I will probably be posting it a week early. I originally had 2 weeks for the mod folder creation just in case we had huge problems with some people. Issues are getting resolved fairly quickly thanks to everyone jumping in, and more than half of the class has their mod folder created.

    For those still having issues or that havent started yet, the original timetable will still apply.

    BENZ: ur .bat file should just say medieval2.exe @modbasics.cfg this doesn't specify a path

    under the [features] section, only have mods/ModBasics if it is in the mods file that does specify a path.

    and make sure ur config and bat file are BOTH in the main M2TW folder.
