COUNTDOWN TO EMPIRE TOTAL WAR (Click!)

We're all eagerly awaiting for the day of release, right? Here we'll countdown to That Day, 6 February, 2009.

Which is now only 88 days to go.

Find an interesting, ETW era historical fact that has something to do with the number of remaining days. Plausibly a historical year.

    Here I go.

    I was mistaken. It's not 86, but 88.

    88. Infanterie-Division (88th Infantry Division) - German Empire

The 88th Infantry Division (88. Infanterie-Division) was a unit of the Imperial German Army in World War I. The division was formed in November 1914 as the Menges Division (Division Menges), named after its commander, and made up primarily of Landwehr troops. It became the 88th Infantry Division in August 1915. The division was disbanded in 1919 during the demobilization of the German Army after World War I.

The Menges Division initially served on the Eastern Front, receiving its baptism of fire in the Battle of Łódź. In 1915, it participated in the Gorlice-Tarnów Offensive, breaking through at Przaznysz and fighting in the battle on the Narew. On August 2, 1915, it became the 88th Infantry Division. From November 1915 to December 1917, the division occupied the line near Daugavpils. In December 1917, after the armistice on the Eastern Front, the division was transferred to the Western Front, where it entered the line in positions near St. Quentin and on the Oise. It participated in the 1918 German Spring Offensive, fighting in the First Battle of the Somme (1918), also known as the Battle of St. Quentin or the Second Battle of the Somme (to distinguish it from the 1916 battle). From April to July 1918, it was in the line in the Champagne region, and then fought in the Second Battle of the Marne. Except for minor periods, it remained in the Champagne region until the end of the war, and faced the Allied Meuse-Argonne Offensive in October and November 1918. Allied intelligence rated the division as fourth class

    Anglo-French Commercial Treaty of 1786 (26 Set)

The agreement governed Anglo-French commercial relations until 1793 when Great Britain entered the war against revolucionary France. Many historians feel that the influx of British manafactured goods under the commercial Treaty depressed the French economy and nearly ruined some French industries.

Gents, please understand that taking large amounts of text from other websites, even Wiki is frown upon. This is akin to taking text from a book and not citing it. Be respectful and post a minimum amount of text with a link to the site in the future.

84th Regiment of Foot (Royal Highland Emigrants)

Began as a regiment of the "Provincial Establishment" (military units made up of Colonial citizens of the British Empire, raised during the American Revolution). While it wore the Scottish Highland uniform and was known as a Highland Regiment, it consisted of no more than 25% Scottish membership, the rest made up of the other nationalities present in the English Colonies during the American Revolution.

    Treaty of Paris (1783)

    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Signing of the preliminary Treaty of Paris, November 30, 1782.

The Treaty of Paris, signed on September 3, 1783, and approved by the Congress of the Confederation on January 14, 1784, formally ended the American Revolutionary War between the Kingdom of Great Britain and the thirteen colonies or the United States of America, which had rebelled against British rule starting in 1775. The other combatant nations, France, Spain and the Dutch Republic had separate agreements; for details of these see Peace of Paris (1783).
