Default The Last Kingdom - FACTION PREVIEW / SCOTLAND

    Kingdom of Alba
    Celtic culture

The Kingdom of Alba has only recently emerged as a unified realm, uniting scots, picts, welsh and even angles. Under the vigorous leadership of Cináed mac Ailpín (Kenneth Mac Alpin), the Scottish kingdom will have to struggle for survival against a sea of foes.

The most immediate threat to the independence of the Scottish people comes from the Angles and Saxons, specifically the neighboring kingdom of Northumbria. However, their biggest threat may not come from their own isle, but from the seas. They may find themselves facing attacks from unsuspected directions, either from the brutal Vikings, or from a potentially unified Irish kingdom. If the kingdom of the Scots cannot neutralize this menaces soon enough, either through conquest or diplomacy, they will find themselves in a very precarious situation.

The Kingdom of Alba will have to use all the strength of their hardy people, and all the scarce resources of they mountainous land, to overcome this threats, and to unify the British isles under the banner of their king.

    Stengths: Strong infantry units
    Weaknesses: Weak missile units

Goal: Total domination of the England and annexing a part of Ireland.

    Unit list:

    Hunters
    Missile - Light - Bow+Axe

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

These skilled hunters have little experience in the ways of war. Whilst unarmoured and equipped with weaponry better suited to hunting game, when called upon to engage the enemy in close quarters or at range, these men are capable of fighting with a determination that belays their lack of formal training.
Local hunters, who although unskilled and ill equipped for warfare, are ferocious and determined fighters.

    Attack: 4 (AP)
    Defence: 3
    Charge: 2

    Welsh Skirmishers
    Missile - Light - Javelins/Axe+Shields

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Unskilled, untrained and unarmoured, Welsh tribesmen make surprisingly good skirmishers. Well suited to rough and craggy terrain and equiped with javelin and shield, these troops can make a vital contribution to any Welsh army.
Although unskilled fighters these tribesmen are well suited to fighting with their javelins on rough terrain.

    Attack: 4 (AP)

    Charge: 2

    Spear Militia
    Spear - Light - Spear+Shields

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Common throughout Europe, Spear Militia are commoners and peasants who have been levied into local militias to defend towns, roads and bolster armies. Given some training and equipped with a long spear and shield, these units are useful in support roles for heavier and better units.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Hailing from the Kingdom of Morgannwg, these heavily armoured spearmen enjoy the sense of security that only thick plate armour can provide. When engaged in frontline combat they specialise in containing their foes long enough for their allies to outflank and then break the enemy line.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Fierce and wild warriors from the Scottish Highlands. These hardy and reckless warriors, accustomed to in-fighting and raiding for loot and slaves, fight with light armour, a shield and are equipped with an axe. Notoriously ill disciplined these warriors can pack a punch but are no match for disciplined and armoured units in formation.

These soldiers originating from the highlands and isles of Scotland. Although their light mail armour and helmets are better than the common folk can aspire to, their equipment is scarcely comparable to that of the nobility from more prosperous lands further south. Nevertheless, their fighting spirit and vicious swords mean that they command respect on the battlefield.

    Buildings example:

    Christian Shrine
    Irish and Celtic factions

Christian shrines were typically only to be found in those areas that still had strong pagan influences in their religious practices. They were often places that were revered for having strong connections to the Almighty. Typically these shrines drew attention from wayfarers, adventurers, and pilgrims.

Saying 'England' is rather redundant in this mods case. England is yet to become an entity. But yes, I can't wait till the next update after seeing this!

    Awesome work as always danova!

Your enthusiasm is admirable, mate! But having to answer constant questions on progress means we're not actually working on the mod while we answer

We're all hard at work on it and we want it released even more than you do, if you can believe that. So let's just say we're making progress.

Personally, I've spent today coding in the AOR and Factional Recruitment System and the Government System for each faction into the EDB. I'm gonna grab a bite to eat soon, but then I'm going to work on adding all of danova's units into the recruitment system.
