One thing I noticed is that the Gondorian armor is a lot different. Gondor would mostly wear chainmail because of the climate they were in (as described by the books). Even though PJ's version of the armor is incredible (hence why we are using it), it's not that accurate compared to other points in his movies.

The second age armor in the movies was pretty accurate as to how they should have looked.

I think Second Age armors were better since they had Númenorean heritage in them...

Pre First Age (sort of like biblical times):
    http://web.ukonline.co.uk/rwf.downing/sprefir.htm

    First Age:

    Second Age:

Third Age (aka War of the Ring):

And the Fourth Age was the time after the war of the ring and after Aragorn was crowned king of Gondor.

Years of the Lamps --> Years of the Trees --> First Age --> Second Age --> Third Age --> Fourth Age

    Years of the Lamps

When Valar and Maiar arrived to Arda they created two lamps to bring light to world. Years of the Lamps ended when Melkor destroyed two lamps.

    Years of the Trees

When lamps were destroyed valar created two trees and settled to Aman, during this time Aman was full of light and joy while Middle-earth was dark. Years of the Trees ended to darkening of Valinor and to leaving of Noldor.

    First Age

First age began when Valar created sun and moon and when Noldor arrived to Middle-earth. First Age ended to War of Wrath where Morgoth was slain and captured and to sinking of Beleriand.

    Second Age

Second Age began after War of Wrath. These years were days of glory for Númenor but years of darkness for Middle-earth. Second Age ended to Battle of Last Alliance where Sauron was slained.

    Third Age

Third Age was time of waining of elves and Númenorean kingdoms of Arnor and Gondor. Third Age ended to destruction of the ring of power and leaving of three elven rings.

    Fourth Age

Fourth Age was age of men and we don't know how long this age lasted or are we still living it.
