It's almost the 1st thing we in the Netherlands learn when we get to WWII: the Swastika is a (religious) symbol used across the world as a sign of luck, progress, etc.
Can't believe it's still associated only with Nazis.

I know your not trying to preserve Hitler's memory. And I know the Swastika symbol was taken from a traditional symbol. I just didn't know it was found in Italy. I thought it came from around Anatolia, so I was wondering what it was doing on a Samnite shield. I called it a Swastika because I don't know the actual name for it. Oh, and thanks for explaining.
It was found anywhere where the IEs went.
According to my knowlege the Italic tribes were Indo-Europeans, thus the "close" relation of Latin and other Italian dialects with Sanscrit -the swastika is also an Indian symbol brought to that subcontenent by the Aryans-, so even if not of Anatolian descent, it would not be surprising if they had this symbol in their cultures.
The Etruscans at least, were definetly of Anatolian descent, as stated in their mythology, language etc. (cite me on that) and on recent DNA testing done of people in Tuscany(mentioned in Archealogy Magazine article on Estuscan tombs recently excavated). As for Samnites identity etc. you'll have to ask Haer! But I hope this might explain why he used it for an Italic tribe's shield design.

The green one on the samnite shield is there in so many mods(most of those depicting samnites I think) probably because that`s how Osprey depicted one of their samnites, right on the cover of Early Roman Armies.

Obviously, they didn`t invent the symbol in such a context, it`s present in surviving local(italic) art of the time and later roman mosaics also show it on tunics:

Looking excellent I am looking forward to the Seleukid's, if the Antigonid's are anything to judge by- should be awesome
Thanks for your posts guy,s.
Now I will be straight up about those lovely units.
Haer the creator has been missing for a long time.
A lot of those units only he has the files too.
So some things may have to change if he never returns.
Which of course I hope is not going to be the case.
Kylan is doing sterling work on Greek units and I am hoping Toon will get into unit work as well?
We have permission to use other modder,s units to fill in gaps.
RotN will continue to develop one way or another.

Hi. Tell please that from original work Haer is or remained in a RotN. Though that he managed to transfer that of its work? What has he had time to transfer from units? Certainly work should proceed, but there is a hope that he will return. NEO too often vanished in reality, but came back.
And here remarkable artist Alexey Varjag, has left and hasn't returned.![]()
