Delete the map.rwm and start a new campaign.
Ok, I've tried that, and it's still crashing. Any ideas?
I think I validated all my changes. And mod folder? Sorry, I'm new to modding MTW2.
My suggestion before this goes worse:
- re-install Medieval2 (uninstall via control panel, delete any files remaining in the 'medieval 2 total war' folder by hand and install again)
- install Bare Geomod (kingdoms version), this is a basic mod folder for working with the Geomod tool
- Download my manual and then try out various things, slowly and step by step.
If you are looking for tutorials regarding mapping and related stuff, have a look here as well.
BTW, does it matter that I bought MTW2 on Steam?
Not a bit. It's the same game.
Can someone make a video how to use this. I change the landscapes of my map and made the map bigger and add new lands on the sea, made the height bigger and add new land scapes and rebels towns. But when I save it and start the game and make a new campaign you know to see the new effects of the landscape, but nothing changes, why? Do you have to use bineditor? I thought you only use it to if you get long loading times. So you use it to fix that problem if I read correctly.
It big thanks to any. if they tell me how to save the moded map to the campaign. I get no bugs and no errors to anything, I install the game correctly.
O ya it be great if someone makes video how to use this tool to make it so much easier for people like me.
The manual should be sufficient. It is highly illustrated and you can use it for reference when trying to explain problems. As with all modding and especially if modding in new areas of expertise it is highly advisable to mod small amounts of data, test, make back up and then mod small again. The more is modded in one go the more difficult it gets to find an error.
I have a strange problem. Editing map files in geomod, saves and goes to folders to look at the files, they have not changed. Opens the folder with geomod again, the changes I did is still there.. but I cant find the changed files, only old ones in the modfolder.. does geomod save it internally somehow? my geomod is installed in the sega/medieval II total war folder
I've been trying this for a while, but everytime i mod it and load up BareGeomod, where i saved it, nothing changes, and when i go back to the Geomod map, it goes back to original too, so everything i've saved and done is gone, any help?
You need to 'verify' your text changes when you make them - otherwise nothing gets written to the files before saving them.
It could also be a matter for the VirtualStore, so please have a look at this tutorial and apply it from step 3 onward, don't forget to delete the M2TW folder n the virtual store.
I works! WUHUU thank you so much!
Hey folks,
I've tested Geomod recently and were first able to load the example files without any problem. Then I copied some modified files from our mod into Geomod's MEII_files folder, because not all files the tool needs have been modified yet and are there partly missing in the modfolder. I replaced the original files with the modded ones, as I just need a survey of the map's regions names to assign sounds correctly. No modifications intendes, so I decided this way.
Now I can't even start Geomod any more, it tells me several files were missing - but they are all there. I tried deleting the GEomod folder and reinstalling it, but it's the same (with unmodified files, of course). i start Geomod, it asks for the files need, I select the data folder from MEII_files in the Geomod directory, and it crashes. Mysterious.
The files have to work together. If you wish to check your mod with Geomod then I would suggest to proceed as follows:
Make a copy of your mod, open the copy with Geomod - the tool is known to mess up files if not operated carefully, hence the back up.
If you receive a 'file missing' then copy those files from the ...\Medieval II Total War\tools\Geomod\M2TW_files\data folder
For more details on how to work with the tool, see my manual.
