IC: Men we are not savages and lest we become the rebels in the north we must act like men! Dispatches some of his lictors to escort the squabbling men home
Now, we must cease the stupid behaviour(IT HAS A 'U' IN WINTER) that some of our senators deem appropriate and finally make a decision as to our future conduct. That is why I shall open the voting to the motions that need to be voted on NOW!

Sitting back down, the Praetor looks over some old scrolls and converses with several senators.
Senators Gaius Ivlivs Caesar and Tiberius Flavius Lupus will remove themselves from the Curia IMMEDIATELY, and may not return for one day (that is, rl).
Both men will receive a Nota Censora. I will also advise the Senate to consider bringing one or both of them up on charges of disturbing the peace.
OOC: I have had just about enough of you two. Don't you dare post in this thread until this time tomorow.
Senators I must urge you to the dangers of Carthage: their territorial violations and constant insolence have made our current alliance undignified for our pursuit as men and Romans. I call you all to resolve your differences and see the obvious threat the Carthaginians pose on us, and the need for further action.
Furthermore, I commend Praetor Scipio for his Command of the Roman legions. Crush that scum before we focus on the Carthaginian affair, which is what really matters to us all.
"Romans not only easily conquered those who fought by cutting, but mocked them too. For the cut, even delivered with force, frequently does not kill, when the vital parts are protected by equipment and bone. On the contrary, a point brought to bear is fatal at two inches; for it is necessary that whatever vital parts it penetrates, it is immersed. Next, when a cut is delivered, the right arm and flank are exposed. However, the point is delivered with the cover of the body and wounds the enemy before he sees it."
- Flavius Vegetius Renatus (in Epitoma Rei Militari, ca. 390)
I must ask the Senate to consider levying another legion. We do not have the manpower to fight the rebels and then remove Carthage, as this house seems to wish. Levying another legion will be expensive, but once we capture Carthaginian territory I believe the investment will prove fruitful.
I agree with that, Censor! Let us show the barbarians that our tolerance to insults does not exist!

I will heartily support such a motion when it is backed up by figures men. Get the quaestor to go to his office and tell us whether we can afford such a legion, because I fear that circumstance will dictate our course of action. Could we not just use one legion over the course of the year? It's not ideal, but we may have our hand forced.
Deploys some lictors to guard the doors and orders them to keep Ivlivs Caesar and Tiberius Flavius Lupus out of the senate and if necessary escort them to their respective domus.

Senator Caius and esteemed Censor Lepidus, shall I take these men who have desecrated these halls, and place them on trial?

OOC: If we wish to bring the senators to trial, does one of us just go to the praetors and demand they investigate? Or does the senate have to vote for it?

OoC: Perhaps we should define legal and political processes in the Constitution. Let's carry the debate there.
The Articles dealing with crime & punishment in the present Constitutional statutes say that you need to bring charges for a Praetor to investigate. All charges must be approved by the Censor to be made valid.

Senator Crassus, who had sat bewildered at the display, shook his head privately in disgust. "Better not to get involved just yet", he thought to himself.
"Senators, I would just like to add that the motions proposed have my support. It is not quite how I would have done things, but it is certainly close enough, and I realise the importance of these measures being passed as soon as possible.
Senator Lucius Artorius Cato (34)
Marcus Appuleius Saturninus looked on at the proceedings and shook his head in exasperation. What was the Senate coming to in this day and age?
Well, Conscript Fathers, I have seen discussion being applied to all of Censor Lepidus' bills, and therefore, I shall now put them up seperately in three different motions, so that we may have an idea of which one is favoured seperately, instead of all of them as a whole. However, I have not heard any mention of our Tribune Clarus' motion, in which he stated that we should send diplomats to secure trade in Greece. While voting for the three bills of Lepidus takes place, let us discuss the Tribune's bill.
OOC: Ok, never mind this, I just saw Wode's voting thread

With a silence echoing around the curia, the senate still slightly bewildered by what they had witnessed, Senator Crassus took the opportunity to fill the void with talk on the subject on everyone's mind.
"Do not let the events of today distract you from the task at hand. Before there is talk of calling the Praetor, I remind you we are about to vote to send him on far more urgent business. In any case, a scene reminiscent of a pair of squabbling schoolchildren need not waste the time of the Roman courts. Even if they are senators."
Senator Lucius Artorius Cato (34)
Falco nudges to a nearby senator.
"Did I just dream this?"
Upon getting a negative reply he rubs his forehead. His head aches and he is tired from endless debates over trifles.
"Senators, we are Roman Senators. We are not merely Senators because we are born in this city, or in certain families. As Senators we need to behave ourselves admirably in all situations, whether in the curia or in a backstreet brawl. Personal rivalry is no cause for fighting, and certainly not one for fighting in the curia. Honour dictates our every action, and the honour gained by engaging in a fistfight with another senator can never outweigh the dishonour that same action causes. But enough moralistic blabber from me.
As for the matter of the Hellenic diplomat: I would rather see a younger senator make a name for himself, but the display of yesterday caused me to reconsider. It would seem the young senators are headstrong and more willing to finish disputes with fist and gladius than with tongue and pen. Therefore I humbly offer my services to the senate as a diplomat, should the senate deem me unfit for the duty I understand, and should they propose someone else, I will personally endorse that person, should I think that person to be good for the job."
EDIT: oops, saw you were all ahead of me

OOC: Seriously guys, I don't understand why the fight is being so heavily criticized. The Roman Senate was more like the Korean Parliament than the American Congress or the House of Commons; Caesar was stubbed to death in there, for God's sake! There were fist fights during almost every important measure, heads were wide opened, spits and curses flew around the place, men fell on their knees to plea for mercy while the lictors used their wooden rods on the Senators while removing them from the House! Surely, we can't expect a Senator who's honour is damaged from a colleague calling him for ex. idiot or corrupted to stay still and dignified, eh?
IC: Aulus Postumius Albinus was watching the brawl closely. Very amused with their petty squabbling over an insignificant measure, he waited until the fight and the voting of the motions had finished. Then, he said:
"Fathers, it is clear that we have decided upon sending a diplomat to Greece, there to secure the Republic's relations with the Makedones, the Epirotans and the Southern Greeks. But, men of the sacred assembly, there's another nation with which we are at war with; they are the Aedui to the North. Of Gallic ancestry, these people occupy the Gaul-Across-the-Padus (Po Valley) alongside with a coalition of Greco-Gallic peoples. I firmly believe that it is in our best interests to secure trade rights and a cease fire with these people. Therefore, I propose the Senatus Consultum Postumia de Pace Gallorum:
1. That the Senate House sends a diplomat to the closest town of the Aedui (ie. Mediolanum) and require of the Gauls peace and trade rights.
Under the valued patronage of Abdülmecid I
I trust that you intend this as a temporary motion, Senator? I believe it would be prudent so long as we are at war with Carthage, which is the only reason I would support it.
