Default The Last Kingdom - FACTION PREVIEW / EAST-FRANKISH

    East Frankish Empire
    Caroling culture

The East Frankish Empire is yet only the shadow of the Empire of Charlemagne. 12 years has passed since the Treaty of Verdun which divided the Caroling heritage of Luis the Pious into three. The size and its role in the continent is decreasing. Hungarian riders invading from east and rioting german tribes within the country cause difficulty.
However its small but still excellent professional army predestinated the empire of Luis the German for more than this.

    Stengths: Strong cavalry units
    Weaknesses: Expensive professional units

Goal: Total domination of the continent and annexing a part of Scandinavia.

It's not great, it's frickin' awesome!

But one thing, it says Non Playable faction at the top? Is there any significant reason for this?

    Cheers

The most of its area is not on the map. It wouldn't be goog and balanced...

It looks like they have 7 regions though, that should make them fairly strong.

I think the problem is they will be too much strong, due to having no enemies at south and east and very strong units. But despite this i also dont understand why their are non playable. Every one can choose the level and when you are playing as another faction, the fact, that this faction is playable have no impact at your game. But may be Im wrong..

Yeah, but the original kingdom has approx. 15 regions.
There's no place for the half of them on the map...

... that's why I suggest that there should be no playable factions. If there's only the 1/3 part of a big country, that's either historically accurate, nor good for the game (usefulness).

    ... but convince me!!

I understand but there's no reason why set this faction non playable, if you accept the fact, that it cannot affect your game with another faction. So you can set this faction playable and everyone can choose if he want to spend his time with this faction...

    ...so did I convienced you?

Well you could look at how other mods construct playable larger factions, such as the Seleucids. The empire is relatively large, but denies the player the ability to make anything other than militia units and the starting provinces tend to be less developed. I am sure you could think of dozens of ways to cripple factions . Well thats my two cents since it overall is your decision, but I do not see the harm in allowing the player to have it is an option of having an easy campaign to start of with before embarking on tougher campaigns like the Welsh or East Angles.
