They are almost always defensive in my campaigns.

In mine as well. They take the Dornish Marshes and then go on the Stormlands. No one can stop them.

In my campaign they always sit back and become one of the strongest factions. Then, when I decide that they would make a good friend and I start an alliance with them, they betray me and destroy my armies. It's happened now twice.

Just to prove me wrong the martell's went on a killing spree and almost conquered the Stormlands and defeated one of my armies (my only defeat in this campaign) before finally becoming my subjects and, then they started doing nothing

My first move was to launch an attack against Gulltown and using it as a base I quickly expanded into the crownlands. Once I had captured everything there I built up two armies and waited while using Admiral Imry to sink any ship that came near dragonstone.

During my buildup I managed to form an alliance with both the Starks and Tullys, both of which had been fighting the Arryns at the Twins. Just as I had finished my first army (around turn 35) I recieved great news. Joffrey had died along with his entire faction, much of the Crownlands were now under the command of Renly who had claimed kingship right at the start.

At this point I myself claimed kingship as the next in line and proceded to attack the Crownlands. during this invasion I noted that Renly had been killed during another battle and that a Martell ship was attacking the King's Landing Harbour.

I then invaded the Stormlands with Stannis and his army taking what little land had not already been taken by the Martells. Edric Storm and the Stormlands last hope went down with the capture of Storm's End. At this point thew Martells declared war on me and smashed my newly built second army as it passed King's Landing (I always auto-resolve) This would be my only defeat in the campaign and really annoyed me. I however could not afford to attack both the Tyrells (who at this point had taken much of the Westlands) and the Dornish and decided to pay of the latter to become my friends.

80 turns in and I had removed most of the false kings, the ironborn still held on to theirm crown but they had no ships and could do nothing but await my plesure.
In the Riverlands both Riverrun and Pinkmaidwen constantly changed between the Lannisters and Tullys while Stoney Sept was now under the command of the Tyrells.
in the Westerlands the Tyrells had taken much of the land leaving the Lannisters with Golden Tooth, Hornvale, Kayce and Fairmarket making the Tyrells one of the richest factions. Banefort and The Crag were under the command of the Tullys but would eventualy be bought off them by me to grant to the Starks.

In a well planned assault I started my war with the Tyrells meaning to remove the only viable threat to me and my loyal subjects. King Stannis himself attacked from the south taking The Arbor, Oldtown, the Uplands and Sun House without a fight. As the Tyrells marched south to deal with him Axell Florent attacked along the Mander taking the entire Eastern Reach even as Stannis slowly battered down their armies using both forts and night battles. With the Eastern Reach and Southern Reach under my control and the Lannisters pushing them out of the Westerlands the Tyrells stopped fighhting and fled to Stoney Sept where Randyl Tarly (now the heir to Highgarden) prepared to make a final stand.

I meanwhile concentrated on the Lannisters who had been fighting my subjects in the Riverlands since the beginning of the game, a quick attack through the Ocean Road and at Lannisport overran them and the only real fight came when I battled Jaime Lannister at Kayce. With much of Westeros under my command and parts of the Westerland coast gifted to different factions so they could fight the Ironborn for me (it never worked) I tgurned my attention to Randyl Tarly and after two massive battles between my two armies and his 2 I retook Stoney Sept, destroyed the Tyrell as a faction and finally gave the Tullys control over all of the Southern Riverlands.

This left the Greyjoys who don't really deserve their own paragraph but oh well. Using ships and the fact that they seem to enjoy leaving units outside each of their settlements, allowing me to destroy the garrison (even in an auto-resolve) without taking a turn to conduct a siege, I took Ten Towers, Orkmont and Hammerhorn in a single turn. The final battle was at Pykem, like Stoney Sept it was a rather large battle consisting of 4 stacks and around 9,000 men. Also like Stoney Sept it was a massacre for the Ironborn thanks to my men having a large amount of experiance and naturally being better units.

I wanted to make Davos more than an ancillary, so I went into the descr_strat and created Davos and then created a custom image

I did the same for Gendry, King Robert's bastard son was debasterdised by Stannis and adopted. I think I created pretty appropriate traits but I don't know about the ancillaries any ideas ?

So with out seeming like too much of a noob how do you make your own characters? If anyone can give me a run through, that'd be appreciated haha.

The descr_strat file holds all the character's traits, ancillaries, and location coordinates. Make sure the name of your character you are adding is also in the names and descr_names texts for the specific faction you are doing the editing for.

There are a ton of tutorials to help craft the game to your liking. Here is the descr_strat tut.
