Default IMPORTANT NEWS - Campaign passive AI has been FIXED - HOTFIX Inside

The passive nature of the campaign AI has been fixed and I owe a massive apology to Grandviz, the problem was never in his code, it was in mine.

The fix turns a core system (Dummy AI governors) upon it's head and before I release a patch I will need to make many adjustments to the AI scripting to achieve a readjusted balance. I am going to wait before releasing patch 1.2.

However, if you want to test the campaign WITHOUT passive AI and help me to find that balance, you will need to save the file from this post into your for_king_or_country\data directory. It will over-write the old file.

    Install instructions:

    RIGHT CLICK export_descr_character_traits.txt
    LEFT CLICK "Save as"
    Browse to C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\for_king_or_country\data
When asked whether you want to overwrite the old file, click YES.

    Cheers

The fix posted above might be save game compatible. If it isn't then you can do this:

    Open the console (Hit ~)
Type the following line where X is the name of a settlement:

    remove_trait GovernorX GovernmentZeroMovement

Seems pretty good so far, could do with being even more aggressive IMHO.

I played couple of hours last night with the hotfix and something has changed and definetly for the better. The AI really moves around now, not just sitting in settlements with its armies. The game is much more interesting now. Most of the time I was wondering "where in the hell are they going?" or "where the hell did that army come from!?!"

In example, I took Plymouth from the AI with Hopton just to be sieged by AI with a full stack army in the next turn. That really wasn't happening before.

Have to do more playing when I have the time and see how the AI behaves when the game developes further. For now, I'd say the hotfix made things much better.

    Very pleased to hear that.

I am curious to know a few things:

How big are the AI stacks? 1/4 full, 1/2 full, 3/4 full, full? etc etc
What are the army compositions it's producing? all muskets? all pikes? equal mix?
Are there any areas of the map where the AI produces units like mad?
Is the AI producing too many stacks of units?
Is the AI losing many settlements to rebellion?
Are you seeing a lot of "Governor of X" generals moving around the country?
Is the AI producing a lot of buildings?

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

    Cheers

To bad I diden't read that thread before the week-end, cause I just finished the royalist campaign at VH/VH

Is it worth starting the parlement campaign with that hotfix or a new release is coming within the next weeks that I should wait about ?

Thanks for that great mod !!

What was the thing that made AI passive? The 0movement traits?

"If ye love wealth greater than liberty,
the tranquility of servitude greater than
the animating contest for freedom, go
home from us in peace. We seek not
your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch
down and lick the hand that feeds you,
and may posterity forget that ye were
    our countrymen."

I am certainly up for a bit of a test under these conditions, but I am also interested to see some alternate history as well, and based upon this,Is there an easy way to eliminate the family tree system??I understand this is planned for the future, but a bit of an early taste wouldnt hurt since there is balance testing going about

I have hotfixed the game. But now governors are attacking cities/castles without their armies! This is suicidal. Before installing the patch I noticed that generals often "throw their lives away"

ai doing funny things.playing as royalist, its 1643 and events say we are at war however parli"s are still neutral.lots of parli generals walking around on their own,and royalists are offered an adoption every turn,6 different so far.

Great mod i live in Newcastle and have been playing stuff like this for years,as a young i was a member of the sealed knot. i have just put the hot fix, but have carried on with the game .. i don't think it is save game compatible as Ruperts army is just sitting on a the bridge that leads to portsmouth and king Charles is doing nothing and has been doing this for about 12 turns he has a large army and i have a similar sized army near Reading... but the AI is really far to passive for my liking, so i think it needs addressed pretty quickly, i will try and start a new game with the "hotfix" see what that does and will let you know tomorrow.....Loving what you have done though.....

this is getting silly, turn after turn as royalist, being told how the wars progressing, yet parliament stay steadfastly neutral!ive been offered 10 adoptions and 4 marriages.ive now got so many generals i dont know what to do with them.i dont think save game is compatable ,as you say.

You still have to declare war as per normal, the declaration of war thats been written about is more of a historical message.

The AI is timed to attack at the same time you recieve the message. The two are linked together. If the AI is not declaring war something has gone wrong in the AI code.

Is anyone else not seeing declarations of war around turn 8?
