LOL! Agreed, that review is utter crap.
laughable.

I lolled.
It's a short review, and he's WAY off on the 'random' combat damage. But he's right in that the game lacks a lot of professional polish that you'd expect from a retail game.

Hit and miss ??
What the hell...
Did he even try to play the game ??
There're some unnecessarily hostile phrases .
Medieval life was harsh and that is not designers fault

Fitz Salnarville, Duke William's favourite knyghte,
To noble Edelwarde his life dyd yielde;
Withe hys tylte launce hee stroke with thilk a myghte,
The Norman's bowels steemde upon the feeld.
Old Salnarville beheld hys son lie ded, 235
Against Erie Edelward his bowe-strynge drewe;
But Harold at one blowe made tweine his head;
He dy'd before the poignant arrowe flew.
So was the hope of all the issue gone,
And in one battle fell the sire and son.
Hit and miss combat, and a structure like total war games? LOL
Has this guy even played the game before?
falnk with cavlary. stay a way from muder hoels.
Did they change the combat from .960 to 1.003? Now I feel you can't just swipe willy-nilly: you have to be a proper distance to get that sweet spot (some thing that I have noticed previously only really in bladed polearms), and making sure you aim for body parts that might be less armored (if at all).

"While the horse handles rather well, the heralded mounted combat is patchy. The archery is OK but largely ineffective with large numbers of enemies..."
Damn man, of course archery is ineffective against 50 guys charging at you. The player will NEVER be any Legolas you know.
It seems the reviewer has only played generic fantasy games, filled with happy little eskimos and magical frogs. Harsh reality struck him too hard...
What pissed me off was the "anorexic Oblivion" part. Seriously, it's nothing like Oblivion, unless Obby's the only ing RPG he played.
I love one of the comments on the page
"The compat isnt random. You just suck".
100% correct. Its an awesome combat system, and hwile it does take a few goes to get used to mounted combat (the timing when going past someone is hwat took me the longest) after about two or three battles, the timing is much easier to get used to. And, its quite impressive for an Indie game (although, to be truethful, most famous indie games are impressive), the aiming is quite awesome and plays a large part, especially in melee. You on horse back, aim low your blade swings in an underarm arc, aim high and its horizontal, aim low and you'll hit the guy in the torso, aim a little higher, and you can hit him in the face, thus doing more damage. Horse on horse (bow chika bow wow) combat is almsot impossible if you dont aim high at the rider (heh, unless you have the godly lance).
See, aiming actually makes a differance unlike in Oblivion, where you can kill a rat by stepping on its tail.
I hate htis reviewer, he's a dumbass. If he'd played it for more then ten minutes, he'd realiese that the combat is infact, more sophisticated then Oblivion.
So i guess if M&B is an anorexic oblivion, does that mean Oblivion is a fat tub of lard?
Edit: Also, sorry for the typind errors, its almost one in the morning.

Haha a reviewer only used to point and click fantasy WOW clones who can't understand the concept of a First person medieval combat sim with limitless potential for role playing expansion and moddiblity.
But as far as these reviews, the reviewer doesn't seem to understand that unlike other games that are point and click your skill depends on hand eye coordination which improves as YOU improve. This shows his clear lack of competence from some of these game reviewers who should stick to reviewing WOW clones.
"Mount & Blade is really an anorexic Oblivion".
Hell, this sentence sounds like "this toaster really sucks at keeping my beer cool".
A less unintelligent person wouldn't have compared this game to Oblivion, but to Elite, Privateer, Pirates! or Seadog.
I hate the fact that big gaming sites give M&B an completely undeserved review, which turns many players away from the game.
