war never changes
Unistall the game. Check HDD for errors by ScanDisk or any other tool you have. Install the game.

hey guys. I have the same problem and found that ending the process explorer.exe in the task manager fixes this problem. If you are a total noob and don't know hot to do this:
Steps to do it(totally noob proof):
1. press alt+ctrl+del. this brings up the task manager in xp. In Vista you have to choose "start task manager"
2. go to the "Processes" tab
3. find the task explorer.exe, and press "End Process". This turns off your explorer. don't worry, its only a visual thing, all the processes are running.
4. go to the Applications tab in the task manager
5. press "new task..."
6. press "Browse..." and navigate to your medieval.exe (its in your program files by default)
7. whoala, the game runs. no CA_LIBS error.
8. if you want to turn back the Explorer, just type in "explorer.exe" in the task manager>applications>new task>type in the word: explorer.exe
good luck
SD_WEST wat other tools can u use (defrag, ccleaner, disk cleaner) something like that or wat
What are you asking? Are you experiencing the same problem as described in the original post? We need to know what problem you're having before we can offer advice.
Also, after looking over this old thread, I suspect that there may be some cross-pollination between PC and Apple users. For example - turning off Explorer isn't usually a good maneuver but it has helped Mac users in the past. Please list your system specs. Good luck!

HDD = harddrive. Start > control Panel > Administrative tools > Windows Memory Diagnostic to do a check of your harddrive.
Same idea even for vanilla.also i did not download the DLV mod at all but i downloaded third age and call of warhammer but only installed third age

I have installed MTW 2 on windows 7 but when I try to start the program it gives me the following error: Medieval 2: Total War encountred an unspecified error and will now exit. How can I do to solve the problem?
Try reinstalling it in C:\Games with the UAC disabled.
If it does not work, post your dxdiag.
I disabled the UAC and I reinstalled MTW2 but keeps giving me the error ... I ran dxdiag and it says that there is no error ...I also tried to "resolve compatibility issues" and gives me the following message: CA_LIBS
Post the dxdiag here.
How do I post it?
copy/paste works.
Click the Go Advanced button and use the paperclip to attatch it works, too.
This is the file:
You will have to reinstall Vista. Win 7 is not supported by HP for your notebook. I just checked for drivers.
If you don't believe me, contact HP support.
