Default Registration Closed : Basic Mesh Texturing 101 & 102

    Class Name

    • Basic Mesh Texturing

    • Give students the basic knowledge to be able to re-texture an existing vanilla mesh.

    • Give students basic knowledge of related .txt files for unit entry into the game engine.

    2. Must have a basic working knowledge of the mod switch procedure.
    3. Some experience editing text files.

    Basic Information

    • I will be hosting a two part class on "Basic Mesh Texturing" starting September 29nd.
    • The first part will be Basic Mesh Texturing 101 - Basic Vanilla Mesh Re-Texturing. This part is sort of a get your feet wet intro to the basic fundamentals of mesh textures. I will provide the base blank vanilla texture for the unit set of my choice.
    • Then we will move onto Basic Mesh Texturing 102 - New Mesh Texturing & Input. This part I will focus on texturing a brand new mesh which I will provide and completely inputting it into the game. This will include the edu, edb, modelsdb, export_units, unit card, and info card entries. The new mesh will come already uv-mapped as uv mapping is a more advanced technique and will require a class all its own. I just want students to understand texturing and its input into the game engine for this class.
    • Registration will be open from September 10, 2008 until September 24, 2008 at 9:00PM GMT -5 (East Coast, United States). Once Registration is closed, I will pm all those interested with their class confirmation and further information.
    • I will be available via private message here and msn messenger during the duration of this course. That information to be given at the time of confirmation. As always, I look forward to your interest and happy modding.

Good luck with this class B. Ward , I'd suggest you get a Front Page announcement and maybe post it in the Skins, Models, and Animations area or something, because there's a lot more people who want to learn to texture than just Romanos. Personally I don't have much time and know I wouldn't really be any good with art, but I'll follow the class or reference it later.

    Cheers,
    Augustus

I definitely want to sign up, I have GIMP and the converter. Is there an official sign-up roster somewhere, or is this enough?

    B. Ward, edit your first post to show those who have registered. This will make it easier for me to assign them when we create the boards.

There are several threads about creating a mod folder, or you can download one of the prepackaged mod folders.

Why wont Gimp run on your machine?? Never heard anyone say that before.

I think I will actually join this class as of this time, more just to understand the process that people helping me as artists go through and the implementation procedures than to have any hope of making skins look like they weren't done in MS Paint, but you never know, maybe Vincent Van Gogh will inhabit my body and I'll cut off my ear... oh and have a sliver of artistic talent. Pretty much qualify for 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, and 7... 4, I guess that depends on what is considered "working knowledge" because layering and alpha channels is a tad bit over my head(though I know how to find both).

Sometime this weekend, I may take a look at GIMP since it's similar to Photoshop and have the class with screens from both to hopefully make it easier on everyone. Thanks to all of you so far for your interest.
