Idea from AWZC - " suggest a conscriptors office - gives you an extra recruitment slot but decreases happiness perhaps?"

    Excellent addition there BP.

I'm going to take this one step further and make the conscription office an apex of gameplay by increasing the recruitment slots by 2 but decreasing experience and morale by 2. It will decrease public order and increase public support for the other side.

here are some more ideas. Updated

Glass Maker (i cant think of a better name) - Glass making expanded rapidly during the 17th century making glass objects more common amongst the lower classes instead of it being a luxury for the rich. Prehaps economic bonus?

    Banks/Goldsmiths -
Banking developed in the 17th century. As England grew more commercial so lending money became more important. In the early 17th century goldsmiths lent and changed money. Then in 1640 King Charles I confiscated gold, which London merchants had deposited at the mint for safety. Afterwards people began to deposit money with goldsmiths instead. The goldsmiths gave receipts for the gold in the form of notes promising to pay on demand.
In time merchants and tradesmen began to exchange these notes as a form of money. The goldsmiths realised that not all of their customers would withdraw their gold at the same time. So it was safe to issue notes for more gold than they actually had. They could then lend money using the extra notes.
In time it was felt there should be a national bank to prevent shady practices by some goldsmiths.- Prehaps an increase in trade because this would allow merchants to deposit money and carry out transactions safely and quickly.

London Parliament- Unique building to London and headquaters for the Parliamentarians. Economic and military bonuses? - WAIT BP has already suggested that

Oxford Royal Court - Unique building to Oxford and headquaters of the Royalists. Again economic and military bonuses?

Brick Factory - Unique to Nottingham because Nottingham was famed for its brick making in the 17th century. Economic bonus?

Tin Mines - In Cornwall, an important trade resource and manufacturing resource. Also one of Bristol's main exports at the time. Economic bonus?

Glass maker. Great I'll add it.
Banks/Goldsmiths. Nice idea, I'll add that too.
Parliament. I wanted to add this too, only trouble is I don't know how it looked before the great fire?
Oxford Royal Court. I'll add this, again though I need a picture.
Brick Factory. Like this idea. I'll get around to it soon.
Tine mines. These are in vanilla med2. I added the resource to Cornwall already.

This is one of the only pictures that I can find of the old Palace of Westminster.

Im afraid that I cant find any other picture of the pre 1666 Palace of Westminster.

Oxford Royal Court. I'll add this, again though I need a picture.
Apparently King Charles I had his court in the University so here is a picture of University College.

Thanks for searching those out Macky. Part 3 of this documentary about Cromwell opens with a view of what is meant to be the house of commons. I'll screengrab it, scrub out ol' Starkey and use that.

    Thanks again

I'm going to add Sir Marmaduke Rawdon and his regiment of yellow coats to the Royalists. They were active in the south around Basing house and Winchester. I believe his original regiment wore red coats but switched to yellow soon after the war began.

An interesting paragraph of text about his regiment:

Rawdon's Regiment was rather unusual in specialising in siege defence, an art honed to perfection at Basing House. Most infantry regiments of the time used 42 inch long barrelled matchlock muskets, firing 10 or 12 bore 3/4 inch diameter lead balls. These were accurate from a smooth bored musket to about 30 yards. But Rawdon needed snipers and lots of them, so recruited females as soldiers to act as snipers with smaller calibred 28 bore muskets, retaining the long 42 inch barrel length. These muskets were accurate to about 120 yards, a range sorely needed for siege defence in an urban enclave like Faringdon. The status of these female snipers was of interest as they represented a third sex: the Regiment employed men (rate of pay 4 times the agricultural wage for front row of the pike block, three times for the rest), women in support at the agricultural wage and then the sniping "Posemen" (Position of Man) at 3 times the agricultural wage. Relationships between Men and Posemen were restrained, as any sexual relations were deemed to be a hanging offence as both parties wore trousers…. The late 1644 Muster Role for Rawdon's Regiment still exists in a museum in St Albans and shows that 10% of the fighting force were women, 48% were men and 42% Posemen, so the majority of 52% of the combat strength of this successful siege defence Regiment were female.

It struck me to wonder looking at the map thread: What is the maritime situation? Will there be buildable ships, trading ports only, or nothing?

Also, I think having Traits for religion is an excellent idea, even if religion per se is not greatly elaborated on as a game element; the various schisms, sectarian sturggle and millenarial rabble-rousing that went on were highly significant as motivators were events. I'd be nice to simulate (if even basically with public order effects etc.) the various religious factions in Parliament, or the storm of unrest that might follow even rumours that an occupying Royalist was a secret Catholic.

The fleet declared for Parliament. There won't be any real maritime element to for King or Country, not for the moment anyway.

Agreed. It's something that can be expanded on in the future.

    For ancillaries, how about you add some of the civilian advisors that were so important before, during and after the civil wars. Examples are;

    Parliamentarians:
John Milton (pamphlet writer who was key in propoganda) maybe an unrest reduction?
Oliver St John (Parliamentarian lawyer, magistrate and diplomat who was important in setting up the new model army) +% law, reduction on recruitment costs?
Sir Henry Vane the Younger (A leading Parliamentarian and statesman of the Commonwealth who opposed Cromwell's Protectorate and was instrumental in setting up the New Model Army and raised finances in London for the parliamentarians cause) + unrest, reduction on recruitment costs, bonus on tax income?
    Royalists:
Sir Edward Hyde (powerful advisor to the King) + influence perhaps?
Lord George Digby (Cultured, charming and brilliant courtier with a fatal tendency to recklessness and a reputation as the King Charles I's “evil genius”) +Influence, -Command?
Queen Henrietta Maria (Loyal, courageous and devoted to King Charles I, but her influence and Catholicism added to the atmosphere of mistrust that surrounded the King) +tax bonus, -Influence, -Piety?

England at this time was Protestant. Whilst there were some Catholics, they were a very small minority. The main divide in religion was between Charles' High Anglican beliefs and the Presbyterian beliefs of many parliamentarians - this is not going to be a key feature of the game atm however (unless Alphadelta changes his mind of course )

    AWZC,

Thanks for your suggestions. Definitely additions for the future but out of the scope for 1.0.

There are no priests. Plus, what would be the point if there were? Everywhere in England was protestant at this time.
