    Default Gameplay Guide

    Player Guide:
(This is not a complete game playing guide, but only to show you the differences with original RTR)

    Campaign:

You're strongly recommended to play on Very Hard campaign difficulty, to make the AI a bit more aggressive!
    1. Initially your financial report is terrible. For seleucid it's nearly (negative) 40,000 denarii/turn and roman 6,000. Be prepared to go into debt for a few years, or you could disband armies and remain idle for next decades because there would still be no money for construction or war.

    2. Due to high cost of armies and buildings, AI would be less aggressive than they're in RTR PE. If you have played EB you would know how less-aggressive they can be... I cannot comment on overall difficulty though.

    3. Population growth is low enough not to cause you any problem. Instead of worrying about having too much people, you should think about how to attract more citizens so you can upgrade cities and recruit soldiers!

    4. Don't exterminate or enslave populations unless it's absolutely necessary - by doing it not only you would kill your future soldiers but also bring very bad traits on your generals' management skills.

    5. Generals: for some factions you *MUST* use generals for battle now, because only they can lead elite heavy cavalry units such as Hetairoi or Sacred Band Cavalry. If you don't have enough family members, you can 1) recruit medium or allied heavy cavalry such as Seleucid Xystophoroi or Hippeis Thessalikoi, or 2) recruit city governors to free your generals from boring management duty; city governors have management bonus but they're expensive ($1,000 per turn), so you would only want to use them in rich and well-developed cities where their management skill could make a huge difference.

    6. Get as many families as possible: they cost nothing and every of these generals is one elite cavalry unit! You can also bribe rebel generals - they're very cheap and willing to serve any faction who can pay (but they could also be bribed away easily )

    7. All AI factions get a lot of bonus and scripted money, between $15,000 to $80,000 per turn whenever their treasury is too low. This is only fair because they are so brainless.

    8. Keep peace with the "Free People" - most territory they hold are worthless and troubled regions. Sometimes their armies would enter your lands, but it's okay they'd leave in a few turns

    Tricks:
    1. F1, Keyboard advice: toggle "perfect spy". It lets you see the armies and city status of other factions. Need to be used together with toggle_fow.

    Graphics & Music:

    Video Settings:
    • Large or huge unit size. Large should be better because it's how the campaign was tested.

    • In RTW, set unit detail to high, building detail to low (slow in siege battles), and everything else except grass and anti-aliasing to highest. The other options should not have serious impact on performance unless you turn on grass and anti-aliasing.

    • If you video driver supports, turn on forced anisotropic filtering (set to 2x at least) to reduce blurring. It's not doable in RTW itself

    Music:

You can use background music from other mods, such as EB. To do it, just install their mods and copy the folder Data\sounds\ and file DATA\descr_sounds_music.txt to your RTR-AqD\Data directory (override the original file).[/list]

A list of mods with their own music:

To use the great music from M2TW, follow the steps:
    1. Create a new directory "M2TW" under your "Rome - Total War" folder.
    2. Download the utility "xidx" to extract M2TW music
    3. Copy xidx.exe to the folder Rome - Total War\M2TW\, which you just created
    4. Copy Medieval II Total War\data\sounds\Music.dat and Music.idx to Rome - Total War\M2TW\.
    5. In "Run" dialog, type "cmd" to start the command-line:
      1. If your RTW is installed in drives other than C:\, type (ex: for drive D ) D:\ and [enter] to switch current drive
      2. type CD "C:\......\Rome - Total War\M2TW" and [enter] to switch to the M2TW folder you created under RTW.
      3. type xidx -x Music.idx and [enter], now you should see the xidx utility extracting M2TW music files
    6. Delete Rome - Total War\M2TW\Music.dat and Music.idx, since you no longer need them.
    7. Copy the file RTR-AqD\data\descr_sounds_music-M2TW.txt to descr_sounds_music.txt and you can enjoy the music! You may also copy the txt file to other mods.
