Edit: With Aper's tips we decided to go with Medium for battles and Hard for campaign.

Do you maybe know what actual bonuses/penalties are given to the AI and player when changing difficulty settings in battles and in campaign? Any answer would be of big help to me.
For battles:
H = +4 attack/+4 morale for the AI
VH = +7 attack/+7 morale for the AI
AFAIK the VH campaign setting nullify diplomacy (the game is really TOTAL WAR) and gives to AI factions a hard-coded 10000 money bonus each turn, so they becomes crazy and begin to throw around endless stacks of elite troops... Maybe someone enjoy this but someone else that isn't so masochist could be disappointed...
However, M campaign AI is passive and don't hire mercenaries (again AFAIK), so I recommend HARD difficulty for the campaign AI

I was playing EB 0,8 and 1 and I thing that the best and challenged setings is H/H. I will play this mod on H/H at first.
I usually play my campaigns on H/H (battle/campain) or H/VH, but that's just a personal choice due to how weak the AI is and the failure of most mods to do proper balancing for M/M.
I would love to see a mod balanced for E/E. Honestly, who ever plays on E/E? No one. It's totally wasted. Now, if PI was balanced for it, turning up the difficulty settings to H/H would actually mean something.

Wow. How would you even attempt to balance such a thing? The PLAYER getting the free 10K/turn income and +7 attack and defense? Or is that VE/VE? Still 5K and +4 isn't much better. You'd have to have an external program that ran prior to game start that swapped EDUs and money scripts based on what faction the player selected to give the AI any hope of competing.
Still, if you create such a beast, I vote you name it the House of HaMasochism Mod
