Default Mod Creep (respons to perfectly polished)

I cant remember who came up with that term but that is one of the thing I wanna discuss here.

This thread might seem pointed at granmaster ruy but it is ment as the sub-mod forum as a whole.
Ruy mean well but sadly I think your doing to much at once and it cant end up well with all the updates from different submods included all the time.

The idea of including a lot of sub mods is great but it is not a simple task. This should ONLY be appointed to someone who really have modding experience and who knew what the different sub mods around effect.

I am glad that there is so many that are willing to put up there work as free to use but maybe you should think about how people will use it!

Perfectly Polished is getting extremly popular wich is great if it wasnt because it was a mess. I am sorry but it is. I feel like this sub forum is taking a dump on all the supporters of SS that want a good mod that combine all the different submods and then put it up like the best thing since SS.6.1.
I would just prefere that some mod wizard or a team of moddes put this project together as I feel it is very imortant and I feel its a little imbarresing to see all the great sub mods being tossed around randomly in a blender.

Ruy again In know this is much pointed at you but I am not after you. I know you mean well I just want to come out with this.

Also I cant really approve of this http://www.perfectlypolished.mhuet.com/

    So please dont shoot me.

    -locks and loads shotgun-

    =]

I know it's a hard task - and believe me it is, - I've spent countless nights with no sleep editing and editing to make things work - at the moment I'm working on 3.0, and it's going well in comparisson to later versions.

I'm only one person - sure it'd be great if I had a team, but unfortunatley I don't - which does make it harder for me, however things are coming along.

This should ONLY be appointed to someone who really have modding experience and who knew what the different sub mods around effect.

I can't agree with you there however - since I do have a lot of modding experience which you may know..., - I can't tell you why though because it would probably result in me being permenantly banned.

    Can't wait for v3.0.
I'm going to install SS to play PP.
What is it that could possible cause you to get banned :hmmm:

Okay I didnt want Ryu banned.
I guess it was illigal to put it up on another website.

What I just wanted was that he testet it all before realese or got some help with it.

I'm not sure what your plight is here. I think it is as much a mess as any other combination of mods or sub-mods.

Also why does it matter if one person or a team puts together the piece? He's getting it done, and fixing bugs frequently...maybe if people wanted to come together and make a team then it would be more efficient, but still the same result (a working sub-modpack).

Also I cant really approve of this http://www.perfectlypolished.mhuet.com/
Why? No reason to not approve of it imo, it's just a place to view and download a submodpack...saves the forum space too, no?

I dont like that the work is putted up on a different site. I have no clue of what is going on and what I personally made I would prefere stayd on twcenter.

I think it is currently a mess and in the loong run it scares people off from SS.
Also I didnt like the description of the mod where it was put together as something it is not. It is not ss 6.1 part 2 and it is certainly not "perfectly polished".
It is just not currently what I wanted as a combination of mods and "mod creep" is defeonetly there. It just gives me a bad taste in my mouth seing all the submods like this in what is put up as a must download.

I don't mind PP, it's a nice way to have a large number of submods simply and easily installed. However, I think it'd be a good idea to have a "lite" version that only accomplishes the original purpose of the mod; the timescale changed from 1.5 years per turn to .5 and balancing changes to growth, build time, etc.

Not everybody wants all of these additional mods. It's become somewhat bloated and taken steps away from it's purpose. "Mod creep" is a fair way of describing it.

3.0 includes seperate installer options so the user can choose (to an extent) which sub-mods should be installed.

The music packs are also seperate.

Remember don't think of it of a large number of sub-mods.

Could this thread be closed please?

In light of the ban on Grandmaster Ryu and this discussion of mod creep can some people tell me what sub-mods work well together? I was going to install perfectly polished but if its not working well I would rather know what sub mods do work together and install them myself.

    If I were you I'd wait for 3.0 =)

It's up to you of course though - but it is a lot more structured than previous versions

I don't see why there is a problem with a single person working on a collection of submods. You must remember this is not a paid profession, and as such you can't expect flawless products everytime (hell you can't even expect something to be "perfectly polished" off the shelves these days .)

If Ryu labeled his work as a beta, or a work in progress it'd be helpful as there are quite a few gamebreaking bugs in his latest version. I still feel with a few fixes it could be a lot of fun. If anything, I'm a little concerned about him getting banned, as downloading .exes from someone who has broken some relatively simple e-forum laws is akin to sleeping with a homeless lady who lives behind wal*mart.

    Hi,

Well, if I've understood clearly the situation : Grandmaster Ryu was, in reality, Allu X and, maybe, Echad, who have been both indefinitely banned of this forum for posting lot of porn during drinking sessions.

Wooh, in that case, what could I say ?... nothing !

So, the question is now : which will be the next indentity used by Allu X/Grandmaster Ryu on this forum ?

Sorry, my english is not perfect.

well i cant really agree with you 100% there barser...
first off, yes it is only one guy... however, it could very well develope into a team if the guys that have made the different submods actually work together a bit...
say, for example, that Ryu wanted to incorporate another mod that made alot of changes to the modeldb file... then you could help him combine those two mods... and probarbly quite easily since youve had alot of experience with that file.

ive helped him combine alot of files, some that didnt even involve my mod, but i think he might need more help.

as for the external site, that was because he knew he was gonna get banned (and rightly so) but still didnt want to leave everyone hanging without version 3.0
(now, wether or not he could have done it differently is something you will have to talk to him about, i know that i sure wouldnt have handled it that way, but im not him)

oh and one thing that could help alot is if people started using PP as a standard (or at least alternative) for their mods... like alot of modders do with SSTC or like it was for RTR-Platinum.
that way not all the workload would be on Ruy.
addicted modder... but crap at it

well... for one, that Retsamdenarg guy was probarbly him... (grandmaster in reverse basically, but misspelled hehe)

i say he should atone for his "crimes" somehow (timebanned maby?) and then either be put on parole or something, but thats not up to me...

but i must say its pretty stupid and arrogant of him to keep using alternate accounts.

Yes, of course it was him, like Allu z, Allu revenge, etc...

But, which will be his next SECRET indentity ?

    However, be sure, I'm really loet66 !

Does the Keep It Simple, Stupid rule apply anymore? I can see where you're coming from, but I also see it form the other side. Personally I have a hard time keeping my simple mod working, I couldn't imagine attempting to combine the most popular sub-mods into a giant amalgamation and expect it to be perfect...

I think his mod contributions and lack of spam for the past 6 months are enough atonement, but that's just my opinion.

I don't think it's stupid or arrogant, however, I think he's trying to communicate to people who downloaded his mod and keeps getting banned. The only other option is to use people to speak for him.

I don't know, I think he's getting too much crap for this. He's spent so much time and staying up nights modding to get this quality product for us, and now he's banned indefinitely, which is going to be a roadblock unless he has some other medium (like a website) to get his products to the public.

So overall it's pretty logical what he is doing, imo. Total War Center is a great place from what I've seen, but it has it's weaknesses (like indefinite punishment on great mod contributors). He hasn't posted anything bad in the past six months, to the contrary it's all been productive and positive posts. So why still banned? No second chance?:hmmm:

    Well say !

In my opinion, Perfectly Polished is the reflect of the personality of Allu x/Grandmaster Ryu.

I think that pathology has a name : delusions of grandeur, but it's not a crime.
