Default RC 1: The Emerald Isle

    Quick Overview:

This are some tweaks I made aimed at making the playing of Ireland, much more fun and challenging, but also adding factors that will make them more of an actual force on the campaign map as the ai, as well.

    Summary of Changes:

(first release will only include early campaign changes)

Ireland starts the game highly handicapped. Small cites, a faction ai designed to just sit around. With these changes they now share the same 'sailor smith' label the Norwegian faction has, and my tests have shown that has made them more active Navally, no they are not some super faction now, just tweaked up a bit. To further facilitate this, I've added a longboat to their starting roster. Ireland also now starts the game with an army with the King, it's not a huge army, but can be deployed correctly to take Dublin in short order, which itself has been tweaked to more accurately reflect it's place in history better. Dublin will start the game larger, have a port, a building for a diplomat, it'll be your first link off the Island, and from their it's up to you...

    Installation:

The first attachment is a rar file you can simply direct to your SS mod folder

    normal installation destination looks like...

    C:/program files/Sega/Medieval II Total War/mods/Stainless_Steel_6

This mod edits the descr_strat.txt so if you'd like to manually import the tweaks without altering any changes you may have made to this file previously the second attachment includes a notepad file with the Ireland and Dublin sections cut out so you can put in them in your descr_strat.txt manually.

Hmm sounds intresting - although, research shows that Ireland owned Dublin - and not Galway and Cork at 1080 =] - so maybe you should incorperate this?

However though Ireland's medieval history is so cluttered I don't think anyone really knows who owned what at the time =[

This is excatly the same changes as I added to the improved ireland script I made long time ago and which is included in fl mod.

I even gave them some starting longboats also.

I also gave them a starting cardinal.

I gave them a much bigger army and they usually go right to the boat and try to take carnivor.

I almost made those changes, thinking very similar, but decided to make Dublin a 'goal', a stepping stone, if you will, to controlling all of Ireland, and thus beyond. Taking Dublin grows your empire, not just literally, it's much more economically advantaged, and gives you a good step up to compete with Scotland and England. I've tweaked up Dublin a little bit, so it's a good city to have, and with the port, it'll be your first link out.

Hmmm, I still think that Galway and Cork would be higher targets

Espeically if you buffed them up tremendosley (spelling) - but for example make Galway a Castle, full of Rebel units (or Norse) -

Then Ireland would have something to work for which is neccessary for them to survive, since they don't have castles to start with =]

    Just my 2 cents

Actually it's not, I tried your mod before, and if I remember correctly it's fundamentally flawed as you've included walls for population levels not even reached yet, so when you actually get to upgrade pop levels, you can't upgrade. It's been a while but I believe that was the crux of why I couldn't use it, and I'm certainly not ripping off your work. I used a fresh file to make my changes. Mine includes ai changes that make Ireland much more navally active, an affordable army for your king to use, and stepping stone development worked in, don't remember all the aspects of your mod, but I do remember you need to fix the walls issue. Actually, I did borrow the adding a boat from you, thanks for that idea, but it's just a boat man.

You might wanna try the one included in fl as it is improved from the script at that link as I didnt care about it no more. And yes the ai was changed and also the pop level as far as I remember.
But I dont care I just say that you did exactly the same and havnt added anything... yet.

I just looked at your file, and suffice it to say we are defiantly not using the same work. I don't use the faction leaders mod, this is just a standalone for someone who wants to get a better experience out of Ireland, playing them, or having a more capable opponent.

I would welcome any suggestions you may have on improving things however...

It is almost the same as your though I added a bigger army since they need that to survive early on.
Also I think the cardinal was a good idea.
I dont know what else to add and that was why it didnt interest me no more.

After playing with these changes in some time I can tell you that they still do poorly compared to scotland.
Well maybe I have just been unlucky :-/

If you want to be true to Ireland in 1080 AD...

Brian Boru , at the battle of Clontarf in 1014 AD, was mourning his sons death in his tent in front of a crucifix, when a small party of vikings found out he was there and ran inside. Furious with his son's rage the irish king picked up his 2 handed longsword and with one blow cut off the legs of the first dane, the 2nd dane struck him in the back of the head with an axe but with all the heroic king's might he cut off his head then he killed the 3rd dane and calmy resigned himself to death. Try doing that when you are 88 years old!

Fantastic, been waiting for the Irish to get an overhaul!

Have you edited the unit roster at all? Or at least the descriptions so they're not so... Welsh?

    Sláinte!

Either good searching skills or good trolling, whichever way you found this
I think 6.1, since it was released before 6.2 (I think)
