My current computer is on the fritz. I have had it for about 3 years, and it seems about ready to die (and I am about ready to kill it). It crashes on a regular basis, and I ususally can't play video games for more than 1/2 hour before they crash. I have used every anit-viral/trojan/spyware program I can find, and have taken my computer to several computer repair stores, but they can't figure it out. Parts of the motherboard are oxidizing, which obviously isn't good. Not to mention, when my computer does work, it can barely keep up with the new games comming out. Frankly I have had it.
The question now is, where to go from here. I have heard good things about alienware, but it seems rather expensive. I have thought of building my own, but I wouldn't know where to start, and that would also leave me without a warrenty. I have been looking at some computers from Dell Canada, and was wondering what people thought of them. I have posted a link, to one of the computers. Any thoughts on the computer in question? Any suggestions you might have for my transition to a new computer?
Cheers
P.S. I have also attached a link for the other desktops at Dell. The one I was looking at is at the bottom right of the page.

you might find some better deals elsewhere - unless you really need the customer service from dell (which is why their prices are so high)..
Deals Direct Link
Tiger Direct Link
Bigfootcomputers - no prebuilt sytems, but decent prices Link
NCIX Link
my favorite place to shop --> Vibe Computers Link

After looking at the prices of the individual components, I'm starting to think that I might try building this myself. Rather than doing a complete re-build, I will keep those componenets that still work, and are fine for what I need (like the floppy disk drive *wink* ). I can't believe how much places like Dell are charging to do the build and supply a year of customer support. Now I just need to find some money to buy these things..... *tongue*

You can use your old HD's, CD drives, and floppy drive. That's about it. Except for your monitor, mouse, and keyboard.
If you use your old HD's you will need a fresh copy of Windows as well. NOT a backup disk. A FULL VERSION.
You'll need mobo, cpu, RAM, PSU, graphics card, and an ATX case of course.
Also don't forget, thermal paste...that's KEY.
All the cables/hardware necessary should come with the motherboard.
GO FOR IT. IMHO, You will not be sorry. Especially saving as much money over buying a prebuilt one.
Prebuilts are for people with more money than brains.
That Dell XPS is actually a pretty decent PC for the price. BUT, you could get more computer for FAR less money.

canucks cant use newegg :sad - and i think pricewatch is US as well. i cant comment on it. NCIX has given me excellent service and quality on a continuous basis - pricematched many components heavily in my favour.

I would recommend you not keep the same Hdrive as your system drive. After 3 years unless it is a scsi, it will probably have faults on it.

That's why you run CHKDSK to consolidate all information away from the corrupted sectors.
I have a couple 5+ year old 40Gb Western Digital HDs (they were the shnizz5 years ago *tongue* )that still run like a champ. I CHKDSK them at least once a year.
