Varying the ammo load and charge range is not a bad idea at all. At the moment I'm still trying to figure out how to stop AI controled missile cavalry from skirmishing. It'll make a big difference when I work it out.
    Try two things:

    attributes - start_not_skirmishing

[Whichever is the firearm] stat_pri_attr or stat_sec_attr - prec

At least with thrown weaponry prec has made it so they cannot skirmish ever.

AD: Great work man really looking forward to this!

In regard to Massey, as a gloucester man myself, born and bread:

It was his staunch defense of Gloucester, that inspired the parlimentarians in London to take up arms again, after many defeats to Royalists in the previous few months. I'm sure it's said that about 4 or 5 regiments were formed in London after news had reached them of Massey's heroics.

He also pretty much broke the Royalists hold on southwest England, with the capture of evesham (breaking their communication lines).

In the end of 1643 he was made commander of the western association army (consisting of Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Worcestershire, Shropshire and Somerset) taking over from Waller who became commander of the southern association.

He then became an important part of parliament afterwards, and was a strong campaigner for the re-introduction of the monarchy.

He also captured Tewekesbury twice as well as malmesbury, and various other towns.

BTW, I think you should make Sir William Waller a more important character too...he was champion of the parlimentarians after all, and pretty much chased the King and Prince Rupert around south west england for months...to say he was a thorn in their side would be an understatement.

Some music (appropriate?) on these pages:

You will need to get a convertor, to change their formats to mp3 though.

Once again I'll respond in more detail later, but I just want to say, thank you Megalos. The first 2 sites are great. I got 6 good tunes from the first, and the second I'm still looking through.

Conversion is no problem, mplayer can convert anything. Those m3u's can also be snagged by opening the .m3u in notepad and copying out the link to the mp3.

No problem. A word of warning though...some of the mp3 links on the last two sites don't work and some do. Also some of the mp3's on those sites really need cleaning up, and some are very jarring...turn down the volume!

Loads of tin whistle music (some have mp3's, some don't)

Bagpipes, horns, tin whistles and most importantly the hornpipes and flutes! Brilliant site.

Thanks again Megalos. Those tunes are in a general a bit too Irish, however I'll add a few for variation. I have more than enough battle map pipe and drum tunes from the yallesville site anyway!

I had a good think and remembered back to my childhood studying about the Tudors and Stuarts, the tudor/stuart castles and houses that I went to on field trips and the types of instruments they played. I remembered the harpsichord was popular at the time, so went looking for some 17th century Harpsichord music. Found a great site selection here.

Waller's definitely one of the most important men on the Parliamentarian side. He has a tough task ahead of him.

I am rather certain the cannot_skirmish command works for missile cav.

Alexander Leslie, Earl of Leven led the invasion, but he's 64 in '44 so might have the same issues as Ferdinando Fairfax of dying too soon. Another candidate may be David Leslie Perhaps include both and call one Leven, the other Leslie- the Scots probably need two stacks anyway.
I found a way to change the age at which the game thinks of a character as being old and ready to die so some of these older commanders will be safe choices.

And he [Gerard] had an interesting standard too - here.
I will probably give each regiment their own unique standard at some point.

Formations look great, as do the cannons.
Thanks. Cannons are vanilla models and skins, but they are fine I think. I renamed them like this:

(left is original name, right name is from For king or country)
    Serpentine - Saker
    Cannon - Demi-culverin
    Culverin - Culverin
    Mortar - Mortar
Basilisk - Bar-steward (boy without a father) double culverin.

Are the musketeers capable of skirmishing in loose formation at all? Might be handy having a unit type able to do that for 'forlorn hopes' and 'commanded musketeers' to have in advance of the main battle line and intermix with the cavalry wings.
I was planning on do something like this with the dragoons. Musketeers will be able to skirmish and go into loose formation if the player wishes however.

Here's the new strat map interface created in the style of a Tudor/Stuart building.

Commanders I've now added and made portraits for, I will preview them later:

    Royalist:

    Gerard - North wales
Grenville - South west with Hopton
Astley - Oxford with the king's infantry
    Maurice - With his brother.

Massie - By popular request he's holding Gloucester.
    Robartes - Holding plymouth
Skippon - Commanding the London Trayned bands in London.
    Hotham - Holding Hull

Regiments to be added : Gerards black coats in the Welsh commission of array. Robartes red coats with yellow sleeves in the western association.

    Cheers

    Thanks.

I've finished the research for the colours. Each regiment will have their unique colours carried by an ensign. I might also have a second ensign carrying the factions banner.

Could you post the research? Then I can see what needs to be changed on the map.
